I grow courgettes, so I can do the courgettes en fleur farçies recipe. There must surely be a greengrocer who sells them complete with the flowers there somewhere (sorry, I don't know London well enough to point you in the direction of one, though).

If you try the stuffed flowers recipe, make sure you gently wash out the flowers under running water first as there are often little bugs hiding there.

Toby, you want to try the following places:

Portobello Road fruit and veg market.
Borough Market (Nigel Slater is big on seasonals, they do 'in season')
Flaneur on Farringdon road - it will be the most expensive but in an emergency, whatevah...

If you can't do that it's a starter in restaurants, so do as your pal did.

I saw some at Borough the other week Toby, plus of course, you'll be able to get them in France ! (erm, where you are right now, d'oh!)

We got some from borough last year. They weren't huge, and they were expensive, but they were good! They were more baby courgettes with flowers, but it did mean the courgettes themselves were very good too.

oh yeah, did we have them with pasta? Sliced in half lengthways? lemon juice and black pepper? or is that me drooling over my keyboard?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

That's the one.

Stuff w. ricotta or something and bake?

i guess i'm thinking of not stuffing them at all - maybe something pasta-based? using the little corgettes too? maybe i'll just experiment.

that does sound nice though.

see above for pasta based using courgettes - very simple, shred them, with lemon juice, good olive oil and decent seasoning, very light, but delicious and fresh tasting.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, i didn't realise you were using the flowers as well in that recipe! that's great, i'll do that tonight.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

or maybe it's "instead" rather than "as well"? anyway, i do a good pasta + courgette, so i'll just modify that.

it seems you can get them every week at swiss cottage farmers' market, incidentally. which is probably of little use to anyone other than me, seeing as it's 10-3 on wednesdays in homebase finchley road carpark.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

it was as well. I'm very jealous of your steady supply!

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

eleven months pass...
you can get them at islington farmers' market, too! from the same farm as at swiss cottage, in fact. £1.20 for 5 flowers with the small courgettes still attached. we had them stuffed and battered tonight, maybe next week i'll do the pasta recipe again.
