...i'm disappointed, now.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 4 August 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Interesting...

Jmod, Monday, 4 August 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish it was on "Gobbling."

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 4 August 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i look forward to hearing her cover of 'femme fatale'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 4 August 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

T/S: Britney Gobbing or Britney Gobbling

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 4 August 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

More like Britney as Wendy James.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

starting to look a bit like chan marshall. shes actually been looking quite pretty recently, which is strange cos normally i dont find her all that attractive.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I read the "Britney" in the thread title as an adjective, like "you're as Britney as Nico!" -- which would be a great compliment or insult, except I'm not sure which it should be.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

good call on the Chan Marshall comparison!

Asymmetric Cocktails (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I rather be 'as Nico' as something if it's all the same.

Sister Wendy.

oh, he's a PROSPECT! I'd wondered when Kansas City had begun signing 16 year olds to their roster. They can't be THAT bad, can they?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

They're first in the AL Central. And Gobble just got a win in his debut this weekend.

Wendy Carlos.

at least britney never got around to recording "deutshland uber alles"

m coleman, Saturday, 24 March 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

If Britney's used her time in rehab to learn to play the dulcimer and is gonna start churning out albums of 10 minute disorientating depressing dirges, she may be my new favourite person.

goddamn "i'll be your mirror" never seemed so apt.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 24 March 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Arggh.

I am deep into middle age. I did not grow up with Britney and most of what I know is due to the fact that she is more or less unavoidable. I don't have a clue about her music, other than it is very pop and over-produced to within an inch of its life.

She doesn't seem that hard to figure out. She has all the money she can eat and is determined to have that much for the rest of her life. She knows that in order to fascinate the public she has to throw a new twist into the storyline pretty often and bizarreness is a very good angle to hook people. That much is obv to anyone with a grasp of conventional wisdom.

The other half of the puzzle is also pretty simple. Britney has a real talent for the bizarre because she and her life are so bizarre. When she was inventing her adult self she was already a total creature of the publicity and money machine, so that she never had a good chance to separate herself from her fanatsy public image. She is good at being unpredictable and weird because she has no core that isn't twisted like a pretzel by fame and wealth.

If you asked her, she'd probably say she was really very happy about her career and deeply proud of her ability to stay at the forefront of the gossip industry, which is the jet fuel for her wealth and fame. She probably sees herself as the top of her profession (fame whore) and the legitimate successor to Madonna. And she probably doesn't quite understand how deeply fucked up she is, because in her world, no one worth more than $200 million could be anything but brilliant and successful. I'm sure people tell her that all day long.

I hope I am not telling anyone anything they didn't already know. I expect not. People seem to treat her like the person sitting over a dunk tank, while they throw balls at her.

Even better if she learns how to play the harmonium, unless you're imaging a late 70s LA folky/bluegrassy kind of thing.

nickn, Sunday, 25 March 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

She knows

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

nathalie, Sunday, 25 March 2007 07:52 (eighteen years ago)

I was thinking harmonium, but I Britney with a dulcimer would be funnier. Besides, I like the word dulcimer better.

The Wayward Johnny B, Sunday, 25 March 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

Well, there are dozens of people who work for her or with her who know this (and if her publicity agent doesn't know this, that agent should be fired yesterday), so it seems likely to me that she knows this, too.

Aimless, Sunday, 25 March 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

That was the least convincing Britney speculation I have ever read.

Hurting 2, Sunday, 25 March 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

I guess I will have to hit the books.

Aimless, Sunday, 25 March 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

New note on the site:

I apologize to the pap for a stunt that was done 4 months ago regarding an umbrella. I was preparing my character for a role in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch places accidentally. I take all my roles very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately I didn't get the part.
