These two DVDs are sold together as a package for $16.95 at the Fort Meade Shoppette. The only thing they have in common is that they are both on Touchstone and start with C. Discuss.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

both sound like gay porn and DO have homoerotic undertones?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Cocktail & Cabin Boy

just add cocaine and swimming lessons to that list and it sounds like a perfect evening out for michael barrymore

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Both feature the wearing of mono-chrome outfits.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the Cockboy and Cabin Tail set was outtasite.

...and I didn't even get in first, oh well (gcannon), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

cabin boy is great and deserves the full criterion treatment. cocktail should be paired with roadhouse.

dan (dan), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yes!!

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Both are the definitive guide for bored businesswomen

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

roadhouse has to be one of the most ridiculous movies ever made -- a philosophy-spouting bouncer? patrick swayze as said philosophy-spouting bouncer? HELLOOOOOOOOO?!?

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

That's why it is so lovely and wonderful! Swayze's mullet is positively life affirming.

Larcole (Nicole), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

a roadhouse/pointbreak double-DVD would be hard to beat, that much i doth concede

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

The most random 2-pack I've seen is Dogma b/w Memento.

chester (synkro), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I would weep with happiness were I to ever be gifted with such a fantastic combination of dvds as Roadhouse/Point Break.

Larcole (Nicole), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

harley davidson and the marlboro man (don johnson and mickey rourke! TOGETHER!! talk about implied homoeroticism!!!) must rate somehow here

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

What I want to see next weekend: http://www.thestranger.com/current/theater.html

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Monday, 4 August 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Both of these movies yawn into the void. I have only seen one of them. I would probably buy the Patrick Swayze Collection.

kingfishy (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 8 February 2007 07:57 (eighteen years ago)

Cabin Boy is a remake. They should sell it with the original.

shieldforyoureyes (shieldforyoureyes), Thursday, 8 February 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

OMG. COCKTAIL.

I am sickly fascinated with this movie. It's so unbelievably terrible! I think I've seen it twice, as I had to watch again, because I didn't think it could be that outstandingly bad. It was.

Things that are so bad, I think they're fascinating:

The neon signs
The name of their bar: Cocktails and Dreams (!!!!)
The scene in the snooty nightclub with the yuppie poetry
The fact that they work at a TGIF
The college professor who belittles all his students
"Couglin's diet: cocktails and dreams."

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, Cabin Boy is a remake? Really? I loved that movie when I was in college. I have a feeling I wouldn't find it quite as amusing these days. "You wanna buy a monkey?"

ENBB (expatrica), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

It's a loose remake of "The Navigator" by Buster Keaton.

Clueless rich brat tries to take a cruise to Hawaii, gets on the wrong
ship because something is in front of the sign, winds up drifting at
sea with the girl he's in love with, etc., etc.

[Last Barman poem]
Brian: I am the last barman poet / I see America drinking the fabulous cocktails I make / Americans getting stinky on something I stir or shake / The sex on the beach / The schnapps made from peach / The velvet hammer / The Alabama slammer. / I make things with juice and froth / The pink squirrel / The three-toed sloth. / I make drinks so sweet and snazzy / The iced tea / The kamakazi / The orgasm / The death spasm / The Singapore sling / The dingaling. / America you've just been devoted to every flavor I got / But if you want to got loaded / Why don't you just order a shot? / Bar is open.

i grew up with this movie's soundtrack

Last Barman poem is the Rosetta Stone of 1980s cocktail culture.

i remember ages ago when some gals i knew were squealing with delight because tom cruise actually tended bar in a couple of upper west side joints as research for the role and they were going to check him out but i can't remember if they got there while he was still on duty

velko, Sunday, 22 March 2009 03:07 (sixteen years ago)

I would purchase Cocktail and Cabin Boy together for one low price. Yes I would.

kenan, Sunday, 22 March 2009 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe they put them together because the names have a nice ring. "Cocktail and Cabin Boy." They fight crime.

On FB I have disgusted VegemiteGrrl by linking this. Alternately, surm is thrilled and amazed.

i have this in full hd and have watched it twice in the last year.

Salut.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 11 June 2012 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

SPOILER WARNING (yes i know this is ridiculous for a film that came out a quarter of a century ago)

-------------------

i never found coughlin's suicide convincing. he's a happy-go-lucky character, he'd have skipped off back to australia, or the caribbean, not ended it all.

tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Monday, 11 June 2012 23:04 (thirteen years ago)

It was responsible for this, Mr Ned Raggett sir. I feel justified in my disgust.

The bar poem was bizarre enough (he said, rewatching), the bad flirting/sex scene that followed even more uh.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 02:27 (thirteen years ago)

Also how did I miss that said photographer in sex scene was Gina Gershon! Between this and Showgirls she is the queen.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 02:28 (thirteen years ago)

More about the Beach Boys obv but still a great read:

That song reminds me a lot of the song in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, "Substitutiary Locomotion" or something like.
