Anyone see this on telly recently? Man it's funny but I'll be fucked if mr chris morris hasn't anything to do with it?

Biggup to whoever is behind this little show.

caught an episode on BBC Three earlier in the year - hit and miss but loved the 'Gameshow Host Who Goes Home ANd Talks To His Wife As If He's Still Presenting A Gameshow' thing - unoriginal but amusing all the same

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Morris has nothing to do with Monkeydust...

Chriddof (Chriddof), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

This show is exactly as good as all other shows with Morwenna Banks.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I take it that's a derogatory remark - but I have to say that I adored "Absolutely".

I still haven't seen any episodes of Monkeydust, though I've heard a fair bit about it. I haven't gone out of my way to catch it mainly because it's yet another "dark" comedy.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

dom is being silly. morwenna banks was in bang! bang! it's reeves and mortimer, too.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I like it. It is very very Morris-esque, particularly the evil pedophile netmonster bit and the boy who goes to visit his earnest father, both of which are actually very funny.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Dom's comment was a compliment! I like Morwenna Banks!

Yeah, it's good and very funny, but some way short of Morris-style brilliance surely?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I accidently flicked on while the sketch with the baby hearing his parents discuss prospective names for him was on. Very funny. Watched the rest but can't remember anything else apart from the Hollywood adaptation of the Diary Of Anne Frank, which was quite good too.

two years pass...
I caught a DVD of this series on the weekend, brought over by a friend. I loved it. It was refreshing watching animated comedy that wasnt effing American for a change - we get next to no brit animated stuff here (I've seen things like Stressed Eric but only actually ON the bbc).

Anyway yeah, hilarious and sad and sick and "how the hell does this get away with being on tv!?".

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 11 September 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

britishers may be good at sitcom but animated comedy is pretty weak. i think monkeydust is an exception.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 11 September 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I have to admit I've not seen much else I liked... that one with the talking animals thats been on recently I hought was terrible. Stressed Eric was okish, but kind of irritating.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 11 September 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

got to agree on "I Am Not An Animal" and "Stressed Eric" - both of them seemed really uncomfortable and embarrasing. I mean, Stressed Eric isn't even funny - he just goes round hurting himself. It's depressing more than anything else. What was the cartoon that featured a couple and seemed to be aimed at middle aged people rather than kids/teens.?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

Ooher... dont know if I recall that one. BBC shows usually only get shown on ABC here, which makes sense I guess but means I often forget to see something when its on, haha.

Oh when I saw MonkeyDust I was also shown "the High Life" with Alan Cummiungs - ahahah OMG, so hilarious! And like, 10 years old!? How I'd never heard of it before I dont know. Anyway.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

the high life was the one about air stewards wasn't it? my parents hated that show so much they refused to even flick to that channel when it was on on principle.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

when i first saw "monkey dust", i thought it was the single funniest thing ever.

after three or four episodes, it gets repetitive. but some of the ideas in there border on genius.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:45 (twenty years ago)

Yeah they did like to play on the humour of repetition, a la the Fast Show, Big Train et al. I mean I like this, but the dude with Hoppy who kept trying to get back into jail got a bit tiring after a while. Mind you i watched something like 5 eps in a row!

Loved the end piece to the pedo internet old guy - goes to the park, and the other kid is an old pervo too and they realise and both mutter "shit!". Also, his correcting the grammar and spelling on the chat, haha.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:47 (twenty years ago)

The High Life! I loved that when I was a kid, not sure how it'd stand up now though. Oh deary me!

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Monday, 12 September 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

I thought it stood up well! Tho with the cheap BBC video/sets it did have a bit of an 80s Young Ones feel.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 12 September 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

I do like the Meatsafe Murderer sketch - mostly because of his voice "I nevah done it - I only said I done it so they'd take me bollocks out the threshing machine".. etc.

I think the first episode of the second series was the best and most consistent - everything from the sketch about American freedom-fighting medieval knights; to the sketch with the kid who moves to Newcastle and visits his Dad back in London ("Noo 58?! I only listen'a Speed Metal. Yer gor any Cannibal Curpse?"); to the sketch with the Pedo-Finder General... all classic!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

Oh I didnt see those ones! Mustve been first season I saw. Must hunt down DVDs... how many seasons?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

PS Charlie, ya gotta good taste in the comedy :)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 12 September 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

i think there's been two or three seasons so far. Fnar... since my amateur dabblings in script writing I've become the biggest comedy geek right now.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

I've got 1st season DVD and s2/3 from ukn0va. They're all fab. The episdoes with the dad and son are heartbreaking and mean, but not as mean as the dad with the gambling problem.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 12 September 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Hahah DL yes I was thinking it was cool how you've done all the comedy threads in line with yr script, which BTW I think is orright.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 12 September 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

in line?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

thanks btw, i haven't been discouraged by plopsy and soggsy and that crew. it is still in the earliest stages and i know it needs vastly rewritten and raked through so i'm not surprised so many people hated it.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 12 September 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)
