Doomsday Clock vs Biological Clock

Theory reffed by (disbelieving) Joan Smith in Sunday paper today - men are more pro-war because it gives structure to their meaningless lives whereas women have their hem hem biological clock. DO you feel your biological clock a ticking, men and women alike? I have to say I'm starting to feel like I'm wasting my life and it's time for something Big and Dramatic to happen, although enlisting isn't that high a priority.

AND what happened to the actual 'doomsday clock' run by those scientists that you would always hear of getting closer to midnight back during the cold war? Has it changed since the 11th? If there was a nuclear war would one dutiful scientist bother setting it to midnight before ducking-and-covering??

I think of it this way -- given the crappy life expentancy throughout much of humanity's existence, I've already beaten the clock and anything else is gravy. War as structure = sucks.

That's a classic sign of someone going through their first Saturn Return. I don't suppose you're about 28 years of age, are you?

Blimey are you that Nostradamus bloke I keep hearing about?

This is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. Without even touching on its ridiculousness, I'd point out the obvious facts that (a) males are very clearly socialized to handle problems in competitive, confrontational terms, while women are very clearly socialized to do otherwise, and yet, despite that, (b) I have never seen any evidence in my life suggesting that women are less inclined toward supporting war efforts. I would, in fact, suggest that the Western socialization of women as loyal support- givers (and the Western socialization of woman as a-political) makes them even more likely to whole-heartedly support the nation in time of war.

Maybe men are pro-war because war is just like everyday life (grinding, gruelling, thankless, tedious, dangerous, squalid, endless duty with no reward etc), except that you get to waste somebody every so often.

And on the otherside, they used this same dodgy rhetoric w/the mommy- track clap that was used to remind career women of approaching menopause (to get them out of the office and back in the home...)

Since the 11th I have been getting that wasting my life feeling, although that might be because I am actually wasting my life. And never mind the doomsday clock - where is Bert The Turtle? He was very alert as I recall, scarily so in fact, in his faith in his meagre cartoon shell being able to blunt the force of a billion exploding atoms.

what Nitsuh said except there is some evidence women go more for the empathetic side, ie more women cast left wing votes in elections - not loads more though, maybe 10 percent more women voting left than men, that's the norm in new zealand - and you could say its not empathy but selfishness, since obviously left wing policies re child care equal opportunity etc improve womens condition.

personally i say go war. men go away, it's the mens auxiliary of SCUM in action. and the afghani women can come here to get away from the radio aerial whippings.

Oddly, more women than men vote for right wing parties in Britain.
