Overall thread here but DV expressed a desire for clarity, thus. My general idea and itinerary to be found on the first post in the other thread; in brief, I plan on being there from the 13th to the 16th of October or so. Who's with me on a trip to Ballyragget, then?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish to join you in this quest (finances permitting), you'll have my bow...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Most excellent. Yes, anyone who wants to come with me from London for this, please! Martin already said he might be up for it!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have this idea of an entire town built below The Castle Raggett.

"Arr, it's the young master!"

(town founded by ex-pirates, obv.)

Er, I probably won't go down the country, but as I said, you'll have my couch, and I'll go over to London for the wedding-thing as well.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds like a fine town to me!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, are your ancestors really from Kilkenny? so are mine! perhaps we are brothers who were seperated at birth.

you must endear yourself to the good folk of Kilkenny be affecting a conceptual familiarity with DJ Carey, Ireland's Greatest Living Sportsman.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll keep that in mind. And yeah, as far as we've been able to tell, the specific roots are in Kilkenny.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I once stayed in DJ Carey's friend's house. His name was Paddy Prendergast and he also played for the Cats (ahem).

I would be glad to play hostess to this visit (whatever that means).

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

are you a serving girl in Castle Raggett who is secretly a princess?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm pretty sure I once went to the enourmous dairy plant at Ballyraggett.

tigerclawskank, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

do they make *cream* there? maybe Ned could be a *cream* baron.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh the visions.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm just back from hols and see that ned will be visiting us in october, hooray!

angela (angela), Thursday, 7 August 2003 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

the Pinefox is also over in August. which is also exciting.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

No it isn't.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, that was perhaps a little harsh of me.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 August 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

A touch!

And thank ya Angela! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 August 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

it will be good to see the pinefox again too. dv, or the pinefox, will you let us know when that'll be?

angela (angela), Thursday, 7 August 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the Pinefox is over from the 20th August to 27th August. but this is Ned's thred, so I will at some stage start a seperate Pinefox-Dublin FAP thread.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Oh to heck with it, I said I would revive this once I had actually bought my London/Dublin ticket, but anyway. So, still on track for being there from the 13th to the 16th of October. Any more random suggestions on things to do besides a Ballyragget expedition? Is there such a thing as a Guinness brewery tour? Is that too obvious?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oh there is indeed, see here for further details. that said it's not supposed to be much good.

angela (angela), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the Old Jameson Distillery tour is meant to be good. you can volunteer to help taste whiskey for them.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i did that! it's great. you have to pretend not to like bourbon best though or they get a bit miffed.

angela (angela), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned should be alright on that score as he is a man of distinguihed tastes.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

and unlike me, he can spell.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

We will have to see about the power of drink.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a feeling this trip will end up with Ned waking up in bed with a hobbit.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a terrible thing to call Lara/Andrew/DV/Ronan/Robin/etc. (delete as applicable)

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There's nowt wrong with that!

xpost

The Guiness Brewery tour - i only made it as far as the gate as the queue was far too long, in March, I ask you! So we decided to drink the stuff in a bar instead. mmmmmm yummy it is too!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Natural History museum is great - a museum straight outta the 19th century. No interactive IT instead lots of stuffed animals.

tigerclawskank, Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Larcole insults all of Ireland and implies I'm not already a hobbit to one extent or another in one blow! ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah Nicole how mean of you, I thought we were friends.

Does the Natural History museum still have the massive elephant?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I will continue to defame Ireland until you take Bono and Roma Downey back.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ok but you are keeping michael flatley

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

He was American anyway. We'll kill him for you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Nooooo!

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a terrible crosspost, I suggest killing Flatley and you appear to object to it!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You know I would give my wholehearted approval.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't forget to buy a Viking helmet from the Viking Museum!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Ned, Ryanair's selling tickets for under 1 euro (before tax), so you can get a return from Luton to Dublin on those days for about 33 Euro.

(Disclaimer: RyanAir are a no-frills airline and then some. They can put you on the flight after the one you wanted for no reason and no compensation).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray about a week after Ned has laid waste to you all in sunny Dublin I think I might be across to help tidy up.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I've flown out of Luton before and I figure that if I go early enough on both days any delays will be dealt with, I'm a patient feller. Let me look into this -- from your place, Andrew, how long does it take to get to Dublin's airport?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, I don't know. 15-20 minutes? That sounds about right. Maybe 30 at rush hour.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell, not bad at all (but is this via bus or train, or are you kindly offering to drive me there, in which case, thanks!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I fear andrew has been at the crack again.

The trip to the airport takes at least 30 minutes. maybe 45. errring on the side of caution am I, perhaps. and it depends how you are getting there. The Blue Bus will usually get you to the airport in 30 minutes from when you get on it in O'Connell Street; buses are meant to be at least every 15 minutes. taxis would be faster, ordinary buses slower.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I was talking taxi. I don't drive: Dublin doesn't really require it.

Hoy! Starry! How long did it take you to get to/from the airport?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Doesn't the airport express leave from Busaras? Does it go through O'Connell st?

Obviously a train to/from the airport would be a good idea, but Ireland's rail system wasn't built on good ideas, dammit.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

No worries, 15 to 45 minutes I can live with either way -- is there a flat rate via taxi to/from the airport like with JFK airport and Manhattan?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

no! and once the taxi driver realises you don't know the city he'll try to bring you to the city centre via kerry. the blue bus is a comfortable alternative to the regular bus. it has a website here.

angela (angela), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I got the Blue Bus from outside PINK but I didn't know it was the Blue bus so I just called it the Aircoach :(.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I should hope I'm around for these visits, though I am planning a trip away at some point.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If you're not there when I visit, Ronan, I will hunt you down and beat you. Just a heads-up. ;-)

Thanks for all the tips here -- I'm probably about to purchase RyanAir tix in a sec, so hold on...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan is always away when people come to visit. curiously, people who come to visit always look suspiciously like Ronan putting on a funny accent.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Astounding stuff!

Anyway, I can't book my flight until I get Martin's contact number, but right now the price is right and all to do the Luton/Dublin connection as Andrew noted. Rah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, booked. With the caveat that my plane times can change as RyanAir deals with whatever ;-) -- leaving Luton on Monday Oct. 13th at 1:35 pm, arrive Dublin 2:40 pm, then leave Dublin on Thursday Oct. 16th at 11:30 am and arrive Luton at 12:35 pm. Rah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Rah, now I've made my booking for the Dublin->London->Dublin trip, on the same flight.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Exquisite. So are we trying to aim for that Thursday flight to be the Great Peregrination?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

London - Luton takes at least an hour by thameslink and then connecting bus

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

He's asking if you're coming on the same flight, if you're coming.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

London - Luton takes at least an hour by thameslink and then connecting bus

I've ridden it before, used Luton as an air connection up to Scotland two years back. I'll have my iPod = time can readily be killed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
when's all this happening again? what are we going to do with young master Raggett when he arrives?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

We'll hide it in a thread that takes even the bare minimum of research, and you'll never ever find it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

when's all this happening again? what are we going to do with young master Raggett when he arrives?

Sssh he'll see & be prepared for it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, yes.

(I'd still like to do some sort of day trip to Ballyragget for the sheer hell of it, if it can be arranged.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Any of you Dublin types planning to go and see the Clientele when they play over there on the 25th?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, you can get the train to Kilkenny. I'm sure it's possible to get a bus or taxi or something from there to Ballyraggett. I'm sure if you suggest that you are the young master you'll be grand.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a feeling that would lead to sorrow. Question is, who else wants to come with...or am I BRAVING IT ALONE?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Solo pioneer travelling rules, as there's no mumurs of, "Why the hell did you just take a picture of THAT"? Go forth, I say! (But then, I would...)

I have a feeling that would lead to sorrow.

Yet another use for that ol' passport, then. Who'd be lame enough to lie about their own name?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Any of you Dublin types planning to go and see the Clientele when they play over there on the 25th?

Sure, why not.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooray! Me too!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)
