Donnie Osmond's PYRAMID

The voice of someone from King of the Hill is supposed to get this woman to say "centimeter" without using any part of the word in his clue. Without hesitation, he says, "A British inch."

The mom from That 70's Show is to give a clue to get a woman to say "Amazon". 70's Mom says, "This is that long river in Africa." The other woman triumphantly cries, "The Amazon!" and the game continues without so much as a cringe of realization from either party.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"A British Inch" is a pretty good clue without getting into conversion ratios.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, any clue that works to make the other person guess the correct answer is a pretty good clue, even if it's factually incorrect. The mom from That '70's Show is a crafty genius.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't there some sketch somewhere sometime about Family Feud, where all the survey answers were completely erroneous and the geniuses who end up winning just happened to have all the same misconceptions?

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"Um, any clue that works to make the other person guess the correct answer is a pretty good clue, even if it's factually incorrect."

I just don't understand how anyone can hear "This is that long river in Africa" and shout "Amazon" before even trying "Nile". There is no strategy involved here. I hate gameshows now.

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

At any rate, I think there should be some sort of announcement at the end of the show, along the lines of "The makers of Pyramid would like to apologize for some of the stupidity which, over the past thirty minutes, has resulted in huge cash prizes for some of our contestants. Just for the record, the Amazon is in South America, and the centimeter is neither British nor equivalent to an inch."

kirsten (kirsten), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

the inch is the british inch!

yeah, anything that makes them guess right can make them win. and I guess winning is all that matters. THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD.

looks rather pleased with himself, doesn't he?

"heh heh heh--keep watching, suckers. Next week, we're gunna have on Joe Millionaire AND Antonio Banderas! And you'll watch that, too!"

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh, the mom from That 70's Show (Debra Jo Rupp) was on Hollywood Squares a couple weeks ago. 'Course, I still remember her from her stint on Seinfeld as Jerry's agent. ("Jerry, I don't want to freak you out, but the pilot is in the audience.") Goddamn, I can't get enough of these minor celebrities!

I just don't understand how anyone can hear "This is that long river in Africa" and shout "Amazon" before even trying "Nile".

Because the Nile isn't in Africa, it's in Egypt. Duh.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 06:15 (twenty-two years ago)

And as we know from so many movies, Egypt is a European country, where the only people who don't look British are slaves.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

or, like Sallah, Egyptians are played by brit(welsh?) actors.

"I am the monarch of the sea..."
