As seen in the Guardian - apparently Ant and Dec are leaving to do Slap Bang full-time (nooo!) and they'll be being replaced by Brian from Big Brother! Good Lord!!

I say the ILx massive takes over and hosts it. You *know* you all want to see Pete talk about minestrone on the nation's TV screens.

Abandoning 'SM:TV Live' (=grate) for 'Slap Bang' (=bigger dud than 'Noel's House Party') has to be one of the v. worst career moves of all time. Still, an out gay man hosting a kids prog should be interesting...

Serves you fools right for watching SMTV.

An out gay man hosting a kids prog is only 'interesting' because of the ingrained expectation that he will start to act all peadophilic, which is nonsense. Brian's only interesting traits are a) his slightly-massive fame, compared to, say, Stephen Gately, and b) his tendency to scream that Satan is lurking everywhere. Ian McKellen would be a far more interesting out gay man for kids to watch, because HE IS MAGNETO lord of the evil mutants, and might smite some magnetic vengeance on the STINKIN' NORMS who populate SM:TV.

Bring back Jimmy Saville!! He really IS wierd....

AL - I said it was 'interesting' precisely because of that homophobic "ingrained expectation" - I hope Brian's appointment will tie the tabs up in knots of prejudice and stupidity.

So long as they continue to have Steps as their guests EVERY WEEK and the BBC continue to have Dani Behr and Joe Mace on as rivals then I don't see how SM:TV can fail.

Emma, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The few fragments of the Saturday Show I saw looked wretched beyond belief. Whose bright idea was it to resurrect Dani Behr's career?

And while we're on the subject, what King of a Travesty was it that Britney Spears appearance on Chums was touted every five minutes for two hours, and then it turns out to be a pre-recorded split-screen slot of ill-timed conversation with Ant. AND to make it worse, the actual star this time was Vick Becks, who was just as rubbish as she was on Chum Trek 2099.

I still like it, though.
