corporate honesty?

do you find that when you were laid off for actual re-structuring it is never admitted that the reason is economic, rather that it is something about your performance?

I was never laid off, but when we did a round a year ago we told them it was economic.

When I was laid off my first part-time job, they had no problem saying that they needed less workers (admittedly it was only a cleaning company). The same thing happened with another part-time job a year ago. This is probably because I didn't hold any special position in those companies, I was merely a faceless worker.
