Here is where you tell everyone how hot it felt and how expensive the beer was...and of course, what a wondrous night you had!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Phew, what a scorcher! etc.

Lovely evening, punctuated by many a splendid tune, and:

1. Focus Group perhaps somewhat sullied by a. unwarrented TaTu-oriented "persuasion" from various quarters and b. only the under-three-minutes edit of "Move Your Feet" being played...

2. Meeting manymany lovely people and saying hello. and them saying hello back.

3. Nobody commenting on my hugely foolish - and thus horribly sweaty - attire (long trousers, non-breathable non-cotton bright green shirt), at least not to my face.

4. William, Starry, Carsmile, Gareth, Julio, Tom, Anna...it was a pleasure. Bring more fans next time...

5. Focus Group results asap please! And cheaper drinks ;-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Bed now.

100+ posts in 9 hours' time...I dare yer!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so glad I played "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"

Barima, if you're reading, your mate shaking my hand and saying my DJing was excellent made my night! Thankyou (and him)!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"SHWG" was the absolute highlight of my evening. Thanks, Tom.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I am also glad that Outkast topped the what-to-play poll, since the CD with Bubba and Chingy on it was a victim of the CD Player travesty.

Most asked-about records of the evening: "Love's Theme" by the Love Unlimited Orchestra and "Mantovani" by the Swingin Cats.

And Dave Q heard the Darkness for the first time!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and when Steve said to the booking guy, I'll give you a call about doing another in a couple of days, the reply was "You bloody well better had" - so, yeah, see you in September :)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! Wish I could've been there.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 7 August 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

where are the goddamned pictures

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 7 August 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

excellence, i felt a bit subdued with the heat and everything (just as well really) but a good turnout and nice to see everyone. Charlie, or Dave Q for that matter, we didnt get a proper intro but hopefully next time

respect to Tom (i think it was he) for playing 'The Green Man' - i would've danced like a mentalist had it not been for various factors (sobriety, climate, that fact that i was sitting down chatting to Barima at the time etc.)

i don't think anyone took any pictures - again :(

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 7 August 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Bollocks, I meant to talk to Barima.

(some) photos were taken, and some at Shmanish Bar later.

WE WANT FUN!

Andrew F at Gareth's at suzy's (suzy), Thursday, 7 August 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

no dude, someone was taking pics, i cant remember who though. it was a pretty cool night i guess, though i guess going to a different spanish bar that played reggae was a bit weird

i didnt get to speak to colette properly, i hope you didnt think i was rude

andrew farrell is here, sleeping on the couch

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 August 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahah hivemind crosspost

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 August 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Most beautiful, these tales. What did Mr. Q think of them Darkness?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 August 2003 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

haha gareth and andrew are gonna be up all nite posting!! i just know it!!

geeta @ mark s' pad (mark s), Thursday, 7 August 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm going to sleep now -- reggae bar was cool! but gareth doesn't like reggae :(

it was great to see everybody again! 3 faps in one week! that must be some kind of record

we in the nyc ilx hivemind will throw 5 faps next week to compete obv

geeta @ mark s' pad (mark s), Thursday, 7 August 2003 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I just woke up and there is no sign of AF.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 7 August 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

did someone play chicks and dicks for me ?

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 7 August 2003 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry I missed it - see (most of) you tonight?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 7 August 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

aw, bless you all for coming out, especially those of you that hadn't been before (not that that's a slur on the regular gang, but it's always nice to have some new faces innit ;))

apols for the price of the beer, but there's not a lot we can do about that (if you buy two pints it's only a fiver though, so find someone else who wants one at the same time as you)

i'll go and see jonathan soon about another one. although what tom reports above is true, jonathan was somewhat pissed, so it's always better to check these things out in the sober light of day :)

thanks again.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 August 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

excellent, tell him if he wants a different night on other weeks then I can sort that for him ;o)

I had a good time too, there was good footie talk last night, but I didn't mingle too much, so next time fo rthose of you I haven't met before (ie maybe tonight!)

chris (chris), Thursday, 7 August 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

What is this different Spanish Bar of which you speak?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 August 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hello. it was great! i had a very nice time sitting in the corner with my mates and chair-dancing. scooter, lumidee and wham rap made my night! had to leave before anyone had started dancing...i take it you did start dancing at some point? :-) will definitely come back if it goes monthly!

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The other Spanish bar is next to the decoy Spanish Bar, and it's not really very Spanish. They played a lot of reggae until 2, then we left. I followed Gareth, as he had access to a couch. It was v.pleasant to on entering the flat to see the New Answers screen's warm glowing warming glow. Then at quarter to five I got up to get a plane back to what I'm sure will be another record-breaking day in work.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

if my jokah gets scanned and published on the net this will be the best fap ever...

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Farrell, you are a certifiable nutter.

chris (chris), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

ruin + hottt weather = groo.

Thanks to the djs for playing all the best choons. At times I felt like you were playing just for me. A Paris Angels /Pet Shop Boys/ Soft Cell/ Wedding Present bonanza.

cooking lager was 2 quid at the start of the night, so lesson for next time = get in early.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, is Andrew WK's "We hate Fun" now the official signature tune of Club FT?

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(on an unrelated note, I suspect the interweb will be my main method of communication today: attempts to use my actual voice have proved unreliable)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually the photos are entirely ruinous: no-one would thank me.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, it was typical that the best song of the night got played just as I was leaving :o( (That being Paris Angels)

chris (chris), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Paris Angels got played and I wasn't there :( Perfume, I assume?

I still have a Paris Angels T-shirt somewhere.....

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

For one moment Suzy I thought you were surprised not to see me on your couch and I got all confused. Then I realised you meant Andrew F, not Anna F.

Gareth, Andrew, Geeta, Dave - sorry I went silent at the end of Spanish regge bar shenanigans. I was falling asleep.

Collette -nice to meet you and cheers for bringing my mate Holly. Could you pass on my e-mail address?

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 7 August 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It's alright, Me and Gareth discussed what we hoped to see in the new Freaky Trigger and the upcoming football season.

(bollocks we did, we talked about NYCILXCH1X0RZ)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 August 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought the impromptu scratching of that Pet Shop Boys remix was actually part of the track - but i'd only had a couple of drinks at this point

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 7 August 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

And I still have my ridiculous fan. Thank you random barmaid.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 7 August 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

All that scratching was making me itch. Me and John proving there is absolutely no skill to it (and it made for a beatuiful PSB - Busted mix).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete, Carsmile and I are apparently forming a Busted tribute band, we've got the jumping in tandem thing locked down already

i think we'll call ourselves Crusted

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

As in Jewel En-?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

As in Stuff-.

David. (Cozen), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I ask a U&K question - who were "Clash 4 Eva" and his mate at the corner table?

Also who was Colette come to think of it!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked dave q's roky erickson t-shirt.

(and everything else abt the evening)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Charlie! I didn't know that you'd be there. I had every intention of coming down, but then HSA got all caught up in watching DieHard on TV and we suck and we didn't go. Sorry. One of these years we will make it to one. Honest.

kate (kate), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

DOn't worry Kate, my love of Die Hard knows no bounds. And we didn't play any Boney M so HSA would have been disappointed.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

And I still have my ridiculous fan.

Anna, I spent the whole night coveting your fan. Guard it, nurture it, let it grow - maybe it'll be big enough for all of us next time!

all caught up in watching DieHard

...is the best cinematic reason this side of Robocop to miss any social occasion you please.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i did play flock of seagulls though...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Except it really upset me, I had literally just finished reading "Why Do People Hate America?" so the entire Western "redemptive power of violence" sub-text really really REALLY bothered me. I just can't watch violent movies any more, all I see is subtext.

I am coming out tonight, though, to Nick's FAP. Except I've forgotten the name of the pub again. D'oh!

OH NO I MISSED FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!!! That makes me sad. I would have worn my shirt had I known.

kate (kate), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

godammit i can't believe i gave up a night watching Die Hard to come to the FT night...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 7 August 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

it was good night, i hope colette didnt think i was rude, we didnt get to talk roadtrips:(

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And I still have my ridiculous fan.

There's no need to insult me, Anna.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 8 August 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin will be here all week

stevem (blueski), Friday, 8 August 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot to mention that Anna's fan (the wavey kind (oh, you know what I mean)) is responsible for saving at least my life several times.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 10 August 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna's fan did fuck-all for me, since I was way beyond saving from sweat-drenched hell by that point.

But it sure was purdy.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 10 August 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I ask a U+K question - who were "Clash 4 Eva" and his mate at the corner table?

That would be me and longtime ILX lurker/sometimes poster Death Is A Hedgehog, respectively. In retrospect I suppose I should have announced my arrival beforehand - very conceited of myself to think that a Gizmo t-shirt, a Big Boi action figure and a water gun would be enough to make ppl chat me up. As it is, we had fun being the mysterious, vaguely creepy fellas on the side.

Fun Activities: Starting a chant of "Astral Weeks! Astral Weeks!" towards a slightly bemused, slightly bewildered DJing Tom (shame no one else joined in), indulging in a game of "guess the ILXor" (was Melissa W there, btw? I was *sure* I saw her...); scowling at a fellow I took to be Martin whilst muttering "Skiiiiidmorrrre" and pointing at him w/ my water pistol (didn't shoot tho, I'm all about peace); putting Big Boi on the couch and watching as he became immediatley sorrounded by chix0rz; and Death Is A Hedgehog introducing himself to other guests as Geir Hongro (he had also thought about giving everything on his focus group ballot a 1 and then just putting a smiley at the end of the paper, but sadly that plan fell through.)

Who were: the woman whom we asked for a pen, the guy who almost broke Big Boi's arm, and the fella with the stirring rendition of "Gay Bar"?

Also, in an odd turn of events, we later hooked up with Colette & her friends to form The League Of Neglected ILXors. We went to a bar with very odd decoration where there wuz drinks for fourty pence. I talked to Colette & her friends a little (they real cool!), but alas left early because 1) it was my last night in London and I still had to pack, 2) I had already danced my arse off the night before at an INDIE CLUB (btw, INDIE CLUB ROXORS and you hatas are all insane) and 3) I hate fun (and alcohol.) Death Is A Hedgehog tells me the evening ended with "Sweet Child O' Mine" being segued into "Summer Of '69", which strikes me as enormously ILX.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 11 August 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the guy who almost broke Big Boi's arm

i have a strong suspicion this was Farrell, but i'm not sure why

'Pete Baran' 'sung' 'Gay Bar'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 11 August 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No Melissa - she is American. And I don't remember that interaction - I was in dark suit-type trousers and a white shirt.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 11 August 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem is a liar. I never saw the Big Boi action figure. Though this doesn't actually mean I didn't break it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Alright alright I broke it there I said it now will the voices stop?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Were you 'Skiiiiidmoooooore', as well?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

No I was not.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

In fact I'm a bit upset that you thought I might have been. For shame!

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

tom, i came in about 9ish with three other girls and a boy. two of us are freakishly tall (she's 5'11, i'm 5'11 *and a half*) and i was wearing a black skirt and vest top and black all stars.

it was nice to talk to anna and gareth, and my friends and i enjoyed the music a lot. it was pretty hard to get talking to strangers, though, i have to admit. i was feeling particularly shy, so i didn't work up the nerve to butt into peoples' conversations.

and yes, it was loads of fun to run into daniel and friend on drury lane and drag them out dancing till quite late. thanks for coming with us, you guys! if you'd stayed with us a little longer you would have been able to sit on santa's lap and get presents at the phoenix...very strange evening, all in all.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

the guy who almost broke Big Boi's arm

Er...I thought that was me. It just came off in my hand. Sorry. I fixed him up good though, didn't I?

i came in about 9ish with three other girls and a boy

And I KNOW that was me. I'm new here, but I was there. Hello.

Jim, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha we must have both broken the Boi. I feel less guilty now.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)
