This does put Davis's "I'm going to fight like a bengal tiger" line into hilarious perspective.

I know this is a cruel thing to wish on the people of California, but I would like him to win only to see Ned's annoyance and dismay. It would almost be as bad as him having to contend with Governor Timberlake.

See, you're assuming the level of hate is the same.

"Mr. Schwartzenegger, what would be your chief desire for the State of California should you take office as Governor?"

"To crush its enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!"

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 7 August 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the commentators on NBC this morning pointed out that it was interesting that Ahnuld said he wanted to "put a book in the hands of every child" when Gray Davis had increased education spending by 34%. But hey, I don't think the voters will really care. Especially when there's like 1000 people on the ballot (that's gonna be SO classic btw).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

A woman on NPR pointed out this morning that if 1,000s of people joined the ballot and paid the $3,500 fee for processing, it would go some ways to restoring the state budget.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

(Sorry to derail the fun for just a brief moment, but, um, isn't it unconstitutional for immigrants to hold gubernatorial office?)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No, that only applies to the Presidency.

A'ight, gotcha!

a slightly more educated nickalicious than before (nickalicious), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

What O. Nate sez. Thus we have both Ahnuld and Arianna running, f'r instance, but yes, the Prez is the only office specifically limited to folks who were born as US citizens -- though I suppose the Vice-Pres would have to have the same limitation given the role of succession?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, Dick Cheney is Vice President, and he was born from Satan's asshole.

One of the commentators on NBC this morning pointed out that it was interesting that Ahnuld said he wanted to "put a book in the hands of every child" when Gray Davis had increased education spending by 34%.

Given that I know certain people (some of which may or may not be ILX regulars) who work at an institution of public education in Cali who are possibly facing a forced minimum wage pay in the near future because of state budget issues, I'm thinking this education spending didn't do much help.

I'm completely supportive of education spending of course, but I'm still baffled to this day why California schools, in general, suffer when i've been hearing about so much lavish spending the system has had for years. (Unless this means school board directors buying them and their families new SUVs.)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking this education spending didn't do much help.

*whistles idly* (As the budget passed, the minimum wage threat isn't actually going to happen...yet.)
