How did an innocuous soft drink, more than 99% sweetened water, come to wield such enormous economic and marketing power and assume such significance in so many people's lives? What does it say to us about who we are and what we are becoming?
The Cola Conquest tells the story of Coca-Cola - the "sublimated essence" of all that America stands for - and the century-long competition with its rival, Pepsi. Shot in the United States, Canada, Russia, England, France, Mexico, and China, The Cola Conquest takes us from Coca-Cola's invention by a morphine-addicted Civil War veteran to the 21st century and China, where Coke is trying to wipe out the 3000 year-old tea drinking habit. "
I've seen it and agree with this review that says it's not a left-wing filmmakers' attack on a corporation but their point of view on history + were amazed of the power of their influence.

I would say that the average American Pepsi consumer has rolled with the punches so far and will probably not do anything but keep drinking Pepsi as normal.
Pepsi design is just about the art, then? That's kind of interesting.

This reminds me of 300 doing way better business than The Spirit because the guys who loved 300 think The Spirit is too gay, despite the fact that 300 is way gayer. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything though.

That's not exactly what I'm saying, but I do think it would take a pretty O_O design change to change much at this point in Pepsi's trajectory as a company. I think the design is not only inoffensive enough to not put people off, but is actually appealing to prevailing aesthetic tastes. Things can't look XTREME!!!!MONSTERMEGABEASTSODAhereisagradienteffectLOL forever.

I notice Coca-Cola is still paying for a 24-year old marketing blunder, having to slap the word "classic" on all their labels.
― Josefa, Sunday, 11 January 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)
i like the 'minimalised' styling of the new cans. i don't like the altering of the wavy line tho - apparently it's so it represents a smile better (with a thin smile for diet and a bigger open-mouthed smile for the MAX), doesn't work for me.

The design is actually quite a coup on Pepsi's part. I've bought a few because my eye was drawn to the bottle or can even before I even knew it was Pepsi.

tastes like sugared water with ground black pepper.
* Sparkling water. * Cane sugar. * Apple extract. * Colour: plain caramel. * Natural plant extracts (including natural caffeine and kola nut extract). * citric, tartaric and lactic acids. * Stabiliser: gum arabic. * Thickener: xanthan gum.
So basically what cola bottles would taste like if cola actually tasted like that?
