- Paul Begalla (sp?) on Crossfire is certainly irritating, but nowhere near as hateful and smug as Coulter.
- Janeane Garoffalo might be a prime candidate, as she is now almost more known for her out-spokenness than for her acting and/or stand-up comedy. The difference here, of course, is that Janeane speaks with a semblance of insight, compassion, wit and humility that sickly vermin like Coulter will never be able to muster.

It's maddening.
The one I'm particularly driven into fits of apoplectic rage by is for Direct TV. It features a husband and wife meeting at their dining room table discussing interior decorating with a designer ("I like colors that whet the appetite"), when suddenly the wife butts in to say "Oh, honey, 'Sex in the City''s almost on!" The husband manfully offers to handle the proceedings so the whistleheaded wife can run off and watch her precious show, only conjuring images in her head about the husband decided to decorate the home with the carcasses, pelts and stuffed heads of big game animals. She decides to stay, telling the desinger that she'll "watch it later" (thanks to Direct TV) and then chastizes the husband for wanting to put a dead Gnu in the living room.
Now WHY do I hate this ad so much? Well, apart from the fact that it's aired at least once a fuckin' hour, it's just so MORONIC! Moreover, the characters are so despicable. Am I to believe that this vaccuous woman would really skip out on a meeting with her interior decorator just to watch a damn show? Is she that much of a child? I don't know -- it just irritates the hell out of me.
Back on topic, here's a sub-thread: who's more annoying: Joe Scarborough or Bill O'Reily? Ann Coulter or Laura Ingraham?
And once again, let me reapeat: I HATE PEGGY NOONAN!

Anyway, I've spent a little time scanning some of the right-wing blogs just.. to try and figure out what makes these people tick, and besides all the hatorade, what's remarkable is they have the SAME complaints about the media as the left does. Whereas it seemed utterly obvious to me that the media had right-leaning tendencies and consistently gave Bush a pass.. while liberals are using "Gored" to describe how the media tears down Democratic candidates.. the far right complains endlessly about the left-liberal media and its anti-Bush agenda. It's crazy is what it is.

Granted, I hate this commercial with a passion so purple it makes indigo look like a pastel color, so I agree with you on the pure vileness of it all, but I thought maybe a different company was the main offender here.
Oh yeah, and, um, I actually like listening to Rush Limbaugh. I can't help it -- I find him hilarious, and during those times when I want to feed the little reactionary in me, he's good junk food. Newspapers Chide TV's Pope Coverage
Coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II by many television reporters on the scene has been criticized by their brethren working in print. "The desire to match the solemnity of the moment and the mood of mourners brought out some of the most cloying prose in television history," wrote New York Times TV critic Alessandra Stanley, who also commented that NBC anchor Brian Williams and CNN's Aaron Brown "began sounding more Catholic than the cardinals, and Diane Sawyer went into the kind of transports usually associated with St. Teresa of Avila." Julie Hinds of the Detroit Free Press was critical of Fox News and CNN's efforts to turn virtually all their 24-hour coverage to the story, which included an interview with Darrell Mease, a killer who was spared from execution after the pope intervened with the governor of Missouri. "Darrell, was the pope a popular man in prison?" Fox reporter Greta Van Susteren asked. "There aren't many Catholics here, but he wasn't unpopular," Mease replied. Several critics remarked that TV reporters seemed to go out of their way to avoid any discussion of criticism of the pope, from the right or left. When on Fox News, Hussein Ibish of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee remarked that Arabs were impressed by the pope's strong stance against America's war in Iraq, commentator Neil Cavuto attempted to cut him off, saying that "his views were not that black and white on the war." When Ibish responded, "No, I think you're wrong about that," Cavuto replied, "I don't want to argue with you today because I like you." Appearing on MSNBC, NBC anchor Brian Williams recalled covering the pope's "magical trip" to meet with Fidel Castro in 1996, "marred, at its height, by a bulletin from the U.S. that Newsweek magazine was running a story about the president and an intern." All three major TV networks as well as CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC plan to carry the pope's funeral on Friday beginning at 4:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

Shelton, 22, one of six remaining contestants competing for a job with Donald Trump, was taken into custody early Sunday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. He was released after posting $250 bail.
A tribal police officer said he heard a noisy Shelton in the hotel lobby and asked him twice to calm down before arresting him, said Seminole police spokesman Gary Bitner.
"He was loud and he just wouldn't calm down," Bitner said.
Shelton was peeved over a $20 cover charge for the hotel bar. Shelton "was at the lobby causing a scene," the police report said. "There were several patrons in the area who were visibly shaken by his actions. After several attempts to calm Shelton, he continued to yell and curse, refusing to calm down and stop causing a scene."
Shelton and some friends were staying at the hotel and celebrating his continued success on "The Apprentice," Bitner said.
"We don't really have any comment," NBC spokesman Jim Dowd said. "This is clearly a private matter with Chris." All but the final episode has been taped, and it isn't known if Shelton makes it that far.

THE CATHOLICIZATION OF CNN: Once again, the Washington press corps was showing off its anti-religion bias. On Saturday night, Al Hunt opened Capital Gang with another of the ugly moments for which the corps is so famous: HUNT (4/9/05): Welcome to a special Capital Gang, a tribute to Pope John Paul II!Yes, the corps was up to its usual tricks, attempting to undermine the faith of average red-state Americans. And how were they going about it? By staging a “special” Capital Gang—an hour-long “tribute” to the pope! For context, recall that recent panel on CNN’s Reliable Sources (see THE DAILY HOWLER, 3/31/05) in which four pundits recited the pseudo-con line: The press corps loves to mock religion!! Those pundits! All four were willing to mouth this script even as NBC, the holiest news network, finished up a special week which it called “Religion in America,” and even as Newsweek ran its second cover in three months about the greater glory of Jesus Christ. But then, as we’ve told you for years, your Big Pundits are willing to do and say anything, as long as it keeps them squarely in line with that “right-leaning dinner-party centrism” that typifies today’s mainstream press. That CNN panel was perfectly foolish—but was perfectly par for the course. So yes, we thought of that ludicrous panel as we watched Capital Gang this weekend. How much do your Washington scribes hate religion? After spending about forty-five minutes beatifying all things John Paul, the panel presented one of the strangest “news” segments we’ve ever seen—an eight-minute segment entirely devoted to a profile of Bob Novak’s Catholic piety. First, Hunt pimped the “special segment,” which he titled "The Prince of Darkness sees the Light." When he came back, he again let us see how much the Big Press hates religion:HUNT: Welcome back. This week our own Robert Novak spent some time with CNN's Judy Woodruff to talk about his conversion to Catholicism.WOODRUFF (videotape): It was one day some years ago that this man, known to many as the Prince of Darkness, walked into one of the oldest churches in Washington and saw the light. Robert David Novak, veteran journalist, fiery conservative, born a Jew, converted Catholic. On many days here is where you'll find him, in the pews of St. Patrick's Church, today reflecting on the pope. The Prince of Darkness “saw the light!” Yes, Woodruff’s presentation simply dripped with anti-religion bias! Indeed, the footage showed Novak genuflecting, then entering a pew at the otherwise empty church. And as things continued, there he sat, telling Woodruff about his vast piety. “I'm a poor mortal and I know certainly probably not nearly as good a Christian as most of the people who are sitting in the church and certainly not better,” he humbly declared. His host concluded her pleasing report with a bit of pious word-play:WOODRUFF: And so it was that the Prince of Darkness embraced the Prince of Peace. We strongly suggest that you read the full transcript of this lengthy (and remarkable) segment. Again, it will help you see how right those four pundits were when they sat on CNN and told the world that the Washington press corps luvvvs mocking religion...

I don’t think it’s weird, I think they’re incentivized to in multiple ways. These are professional media creatures and national security ghouls. War is a force that gives them meaning, as Chris Hedges would say. They’re slathering for it.
Also, the more pro-war they can amp up people against Russia, the easier it will be to transfer that ire to China, which has been a motive since the Obama admin.
