This is the thread where you write the post everyone would expect you to write

So for the past week or so (if not longer) I've been noticing a lot of interchangeability to everyone's posts. Pretty much no matter what the thread is about, the answers fall within a certain pattern of predicability - the result being that you know what folks are going to say before you even get to their posts.

For example I post all the time on the food, drone rock, and Macintosh threads with pretty much the same type/content of posts. Other folks post about their hatred or love of NYC or LA, etc. Still other folks post about their unconditional love for Loveless, etc.

Not making a value judgment here, just noticing things. Anyway, this is the thread where you write the most most generic post that everyone would expect you to write.

So last night I went out intending to tie my shoelace and come home, when I met this guy I know who owed me money, I bought a pint and they were all going to some party on the beach but we decided to go back to mine. Anyway after a while we were all completely fucked, I put on the jacques lu cont remix of something and I swear I saw through time. God I feel awful now though.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 9 August 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I am currently WHINGING on about some stereotype or whatnot that I DESPERATELY want to prove wrong. I am also going on about how much I actually really like San Antonio, in an effort to gain understanding as to why I would actually want to stay here, as well as posting fiery, opinion-filled beliefs of What I Hold To Be True, afterwards purposely avoiding the responses because I just KNOW I messed up again and didn't temper my words. Other things I'm posting include my moments of self-hatred and self-doubt, little silly bits of nonsense, and things that maybe perhaps reveal a bit too much about myself... ?

Excellent thread idea, Chris hon.

This == the right time to combine self-loathing, deep-rooted insecurity, fatalism, and a religious escape route.

you write the most most generic post that everyone would expect you to write.

Doesn't this thread assume that everyone is a little too predictable? I think this thread might benefit from counseling.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 9 August 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Unsurprisingly I have read and reread with no large uninterest what the Nipper has to say here. As ever, his ability to spin an inspiring line into the waters of imagination commands shoals of respect. Yet still there are some things about his post that I cannot understand, or cannot agree with. Curiously enough I think (old themes here) that he *underrates* Morley's spatial sense - let me raise a flaccid arm one more time and point to pp.130-1 of Nothing, whose italics always take me such pains to stick on the screen. I have yet, or am yet, to give up on the notion that this brand of localism is something that British writing, or anyone else's, should not try too hard to be without.

Cozen: I admire once again the phrasing, can't buy the whole of the sentiment. Allow me to say that I wish you would sort out your way with punctuation, which skates on thin ice over the gradually freezing back of my neck.

The Doc is OTM.

I agree with Tom E about some of the usual things, and disagree with him, or don't share his emotional locale, about some of the others. Possibly this is unavoidable.

"Like Glue" is great. But it aint as good as "Punkie." Why can't people talk more about dancehall, anti-capitalism, how great Montreal is, Jamaica, and dancehall?
(Don't answer my question--that's normally how it works...unless you're Dave Stelfox, and then you'll need to mention how necessary the Ward 21 album is)

cybele (cybele), Saturday, 9 August 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Fucking hell... I mean, do we really need to listen to this record again, or can we just go round to the cunt's house and set fire to his parents? I mean... really.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 9 August 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, there's a few good examples of this sort of thing. I'm going to go the obvious route and say that Beck ca. '93-'94 was probably the best at it. Which reminds me: how fucking awesome would a bitter-as-hell Mellow Gold-style-lyrics Beck sound produced by El-P? Answer: as awesome as Ultimo Dragon driving a Maserati Ghibli with Maggot Brain on the tape deck.

You'd be trying to wash out your memory with soap if you saw what I actually look like naked. That's probably why guys pointedly ignore me, and therefore I will probably never again have another boyfriend.

And I actually liked the place where I interviewed for a job last week, but of course nobody there called me back. But at least I do have a job interview tomorrow -- wish me luck!

That restaurant is indeed very good, but I was having trouble really getting into it because the food reminded me so much of a restaurant in this obscure town which specializes in the northwestern regional style of that cuisine. This place has your basic dishes, but with elements of it's neighboring country so the spicing is unusually strong and the dishes have more fruit and things like pumpkin in it.

Damn, I haven't been there in awhile. I should drop in on my way back from my Nova Scotia road trip.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 8 January 2005 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps the growth in both production values and aesthetic conservatism in Canadian electroacoustic music in the early 80s can be considered in terms of contemporary developments in popular music - increased critical dismissal of prog/AOR/fusion/pomp as bloated and affectively empty while seekng the old countercultural values in more fashionably 'authentic' folk forms and fashionably 'inauthentically' 'authentic' new wave pop forms, with the critically approved face of pop becoming favoured over actual radio content ('rockism' working against, like, rock as usual). Journey's "Separate Ways" and Barry Truax's "Riverrun" can both be considered in this regard. More concise than I dunno "Arras" or "Heart of the Sunrise" or something but with fruity-ass synths all over the place, you know?;) A tasty orchard in these cases maybe.

At least that's how it seems to me sometimes. Maybe i'm thinking too much about this?
