Have you ever felt like this? I've just got back from seeing All the Real Girls (portrayal of beautifully idiosyncratic love and the destructive nature of sex; "love is a cruelty by which we transform our wills to live together") and was struck throughout by this overwhelming feeling that I'd like to fall in love. I thought that was quite weird because a. I've never felt like that, b. love isn't really something you can want into existence and c. a & b. Have you ever felt like this or am I just being weird here and taking note of a non-rare occurence?

I don't think it's that uncommon to have a general feeling of wanting to fall in love - perhaps first in the early 20s and probably coming back in the mid to late 30s.

Observing friends when they're looking for a Significant Other, I'm struck how sometimes it seems almost arbitrary who it is.

I think most people feel like this. Feel good movies always portray falling in love as a few ups & downs but ultimately a happy ending. Who wouldn't want that?

I am envious of my friends who are crazy in unrequited love even though they are 90% miserable. How crap is that? I am In Love too, of course, but not in that 'oh my god I feel actually SICK with this' way.

And in the past I'm sure I have wanted to fall in love so much that I 'faked it' to myself with people who really weren't right.

It's really normal, I suppose.

I haven't been able to feel 'sick' over this sort of thing since I got over crushing on women who I really knew nothing about, except what I'd mostly made up/exaggerated to the point where it came to the same thing. Now I just really want to fuck/cuddle/hang out/talk crap w/them, the big abstract idea of LOVE that transcends all else (this was my ideal bac then, anyway) just doesn't seem to make much sense and what I'm left is a lot better (mostly as it actually exists), and harder to sicken myself with.
