Today, I spent 3 hours putting together flat packed furniture. And then I sat with curtains closed reading Knut Hamsun, I reckon Mrs Falkenburg is pregnant.. Now the wind is blowing all through the house, it's a nice change. I also watched the highlights of the Community Shield, but it was boring so I went online instead. Yesterday, I watched cricket and saw PotC.

So, yeah, what have you been up to?

Someone I know through the internet but not in real life has just sent me an essay he's written, and asked me what I think of it. He's desperate to become some sort of published writer, and I haven't got the heart to tell him that I think his essay is rubbish. How am I going to say this nicely?

I wish I could trade this for Ned fondue. That sounds a much nicer thing to be doing instead.

I was just on the phone with a friend who has an eating disorder, trying to convince her to get therapy. I'm not very good at being convincing. I don't want to be a pushy person...and I probably came across that way, but she really needs help. Bah.

What I think is strange about people I've known with eating disorders was the fact that they accepted and acknowledged that they had a problem (whereas with many other personality disorders [such as alcoholism] the afflicted WON'T acknowledge that they have a problem), but still refused to seek treatment for it.

I have hurt my foot - some kind of sprained ankle or insect bite or something (or gout but I'm trying not to consider that option) - and have basically been laid up for most of the weekend. Was going to go to a barbeque with Isabel yesterday but it was hurting too much. Not great but hey at least we bought a fan last week. So I've been playing the playstation and reading and writing a bit.

It is strange, nickalicious, about people with eating disorders. And really sad. I hate to see my friend going through this shit when she could be helped.

My tapes are squeaking on my tape player, so I switched to a walkman and then they're all sloowwwed down. They're too fucking old. Dammit.

I'm doing the same thing I've been doing quite regularly for weeks now. I'm putting off going to the gym. I have hardly been going out at all lately (due at least partly to the weather). I just realized that although I've been doing very little, I'm actually feeling pretty happy. Maybe it's because I have at least been making more time for reading (offline) again. But when I get to work tomorrow, I will most likely become unhappy again.

I have big plans for September, and have kind of decided to be on vacation for the rest of August, even though not formally on vacation--on vacation in spirit. That seems to be working.

too hot, too hot.
got up early, cycled round park where gay pride festival had been
yesterday, half way round decided to keep my eyes focused on the
ground in case i saw that ten pound note that somebody must have
lost. came home none the richer.
lazed around, friend who was at festival in leicester with new mobile
(and loads of free call time) called me up sporadically so i could
hear a song each by aqualung, richard hawley, magoo, durutti column,
and quite bizarrely joan baez. some other friends rang up to tell me
how drunk they were (well, thats the reason as far as i can tell).
drank wine with lots of ice and lemonade and watched last episode of
24 on tv. friend called me up from his house to tell me he'd been
burgledwhile at festival. they pretty much cleaned out his house, and
i consoled as best i could.

I've had the flu for five days now and my throat is sore, I got a job interview today and tomorrow I have to go to Toorak in BUSINESS attire for some bullshit job in ascot vale. So I bought some stockings to wear and remain undecided on my attire.
I'm babysitting tonight and this means I can practice spanish and watch Queer As Folk.
Also making plans to watch last ever buffy for tomorrow night, don't really care.
Had to get some passport photos made and came out looking thoroughly bizarre and slightly off kilter.

The w/e was fab. saturday i went to a spanish restaurant in the afternoon & ordered far too much tapas & got drunk on sangria! then went to the seaside yesterday which was much fun. we paddled in the sea, sunbathed, played in the arcades & had fish & chips. Been worrying all day. Woke up today to find my eyesight had deteriorated dramatically. It didn't improve by the time I'd reached work, and I've been at about 10% capacity today. Saw an optician and it's medical and not helped by lenses. I see my GP first thing tomorrow, who will apparently send me to a hospital to see a specialist. It's worrying.

I have been referred on to a specialist at hospital with a request for an "urgent" appointment, so I don't know how long that will take. However, the right eye is much better today, and even the left is no worse than the right was yesterday, so I am encouraged by that.
