Who would you vote for if you really, really had to vote for one? And why isn't Hef standing for Guv'nor?

Calz (Calz), Sunday, 10 August 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont care

Christian Vasbotn Braaten (Christian Vasbotn Braaten), Sunday, 10 August 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, Larry by a mile.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 10 August 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Morrissey should stand. He'd not win though. Can you imagine it:

"Gee this fellow seems a bit smart, but he's not been in any movies so my vote goes for Arnold, I bet he'll kick those towel heads out of the middle east".

Calz (Calz), Sunday, 10 August 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

flynt every time. if he was standing in my area as mp for ilford south id vote for him. what was that film about him called again? that was pretty decent

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Sunday, 10 August 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

LArry Flynt, mainly for this ad calling for a National Day of Prayer.

be sure to read the disclaimer at the bottom.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 10 August 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

duh, larry. if nothing else, for the flynt report:
http://www.thepornographyofpower.com/tom38.html
even my ma is voting for him.

arnold is very ambitious and scary. it's like reagan all over. i'm wondering if stories about his nazi dad will get out. probably not. everyone loves him and the media is practically nazi already.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Sunday, 10 August 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahnold can't become President, at least.

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 11 August 2003 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, he can if this amendment that's been kicking around passes. Sponsored by Orrin Fucking Hatch.

Can I ask again why Republicans just can't accept that they LOSE ELECTIONS? Fuck them all in their decrepit ears, seriously.

maura (maura), Monday, 11 August 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, for reals!

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Monday, 11 August 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

based on what we know (pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-queer, "exemplary community activist" per robert scheer), how is arnold any more "republican" than gray davis, diane feinstein, joe lieberman, or any of a hundred democrats?

the prog thread on the other board deals w/ "evasion of critical thinking" and the whole "republican=satan, democrat=slightly better" argument falls into that category. try harder.

do you really think he's going to lose?

dan (dan), Monday, 11 August 2003 04:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Versus Gary Coleman!

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 11 August 2003 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, what do you know about his other positions? Where have you found these articles? Because the press I've seen about his candidacy has either a) been riddled with lousy puns on his most famous one-liners from movies (although I haven't seen one that uses "consider this a divorce," from TOTAL RECALL, yet) or b) been focused on how he can't lose because he has so much name recognition.

But yeah, you can believe that when I see the front page of the NY Post -- GOP House Organ #2 -- declaring that Dubya thinks Schwarzenegger's the one, you can bet I'm going to feel a little dubious about the whole thing. This administration's most egregious successes -- those vile-acronymed acts being examples 1 through 5 -- are dependent on people being unwilling to believe the worst about them and their intentions. And of course, most of the press for Schwarzenegger was of the pre-movie-release variety, meaning that it was puffball-filled (like about how he's devoted to bodybuilding etc) and completely fawning. Yeah, "T3" got some lousy reviews, but other than that?

TS: "How does it feel to be so incredibly awesome"-angled celebrity journalism vs. "How does it feel to be so incredibly awesome"-angled political journalism!

VOTE FOR JACK!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 11 August 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Y'know, I don't think I've seen one headline that read: "Total Recall."
Did I miss them or have America's headline writers suddenly acquired a sense of shame?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait till the recall vote actually happens.

Is Arnold pro-choice and pro-queer? I was thinking he wasn't, but then again I wasn't paying that much attention...

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

nah, they're using that one all over CNN.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

also yeah, Arnie is supposedly pro-environment, pro-choice, pro-gay rights (no word on gay marriage yet though). Socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The fact that it would allow Arnold Schwarzenegger to become president isn't much of a reason not to allow naturalized citizens (or even non-citizens) to run for president. It's a ridiculous and archaic law that should be changed.

Kris (aqueduct), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but that would open the door for domination by evil Chinese overlords!

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

or Mexicans

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

There was actually a story on CNN about how he (god, I can't even say his name, it's such a joke - it's as if Engelbert Humperdinck is running) is "sucking all the political air" from everybody else. The piece was actually edited together and everything, they spent awhile on it. For god's sake, if anybody's responsible for political air and which way it sucks, it's CNN?! It's like Henry Ford complaining that all his cars are black!
