In the horrible distopian future pictured in this book, marijuana is legalized and internal combustion engined cars have been mostly eliminated. This already makes it better the real future we are currently in. Stand on Zanzibar is a bit dated.

Just read Brunner's Squares of the City which owns Zanzibar and probably everything else Brunner wrote. Agree that Malzberg is better though.

I haven't read this since high school and picked it up again this week after uncovering it in a box of books. This is actually really fantastic - much more than I recall it being. The "Context" chapters are great!
