This Is The Thread In Which We Run 100m

Inspired by Eyeball Kicks' champions thread - I have been meaning to post something like this for ages, so while I remember here it is (even if high summer is not the best time to do it.)

This thread is very simple. You run 100m, get a mate to time you, and post your time here on ILX. The distance should be as accurate as possible, ditto the timing, but obviously some approximation will be necessary as we don't all live next to an athletics track. Try and be honest!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 August 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. In the heat around here I might keel over, but I'll investigate sometime this week.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 August 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

high-school me to thread
(I ran in the state track meet,
I was such a jock)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 11 August 2003 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

eh, can I just tell everyone about my 14 minute two-mile and leave it at that?

Millar (Millar), Monday, 11 August 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I ran a 40-yd dash, my time was about eight seconds. Factoring in fatigue and smoking (but weight loss, too), I figure my 100M time is at least 20 seconds.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i did cross country in high school, not track.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I did Denny's in high school. Someone can time me while I make a pyramid out of single-serving creamers ...

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

what was your best time in the "Gulping Moons-Over-My-Hammie" relay event?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I've only had one of those once, and only cause I know the guy who does the Project Denny's page. I was always a key lime pie and/or chili fries guy, and keep the coffee coming.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, I am 1. 44, 2. Very badly asthmatic, 3. Very out of condition. Also it is insanely hot. Is this an attempt to kill me?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

As I said up above I'm not expecting anyone to do it right now. I've just started the thread now and when things cool down people can give it a shot.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It still sounds like a plot to make ILx a peaceful, empty place to me.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to do it myself on Saturday, which is also the day the sports blog launches.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't do running. I am the Mariah Carey of ILX.

j0e (j0e), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(A concerned sportsblog editor informs me that it will not be launching on Saturday.)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

My best time ever was 11.7. I am not that fast, sadly.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to do it in twelve and a half, now? Gimme an hour or so?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I've wanted to do this for ages but I don't know how to measure out 100m even remotely accurately.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

buy a trundle wheel!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to run 5 miles every other day. Now I live in stifling Southern heat, so those days are over.

jewelly (jewelly), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i ran 1500m quite a bit back when i was in school, and i was ok, but i'm unbelievably slow over short distances. i may do this anyway over the next couple of days...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Couldn't we all just do a 100m stroll? With a pub at the end of it?

robster (robster), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

9.81! Just outside the world record. Slight head wind. Time is unofficial.

G Man, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

G was this time done at crystal palace last friday?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Rumbled.

G Man, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Running is why god made bicycles.

Hunter (Hunter), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you really think God came up with the design for a Rayleigh Chopper? He must have been whacked out on a large bong.

G Man, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

God just invented that old-timey bicycle with the one giant wheel in the front and the tiny wheel in the back. People just kind of took it over from there, what with free will and all.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem of evil restated as the problem of the bumpy ride - brilliant!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

three minutes

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
ok. do it.

cºzen (Cozen), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I last did this about 5 years ago. We were timed in rugby training. I did 11.1 and got stuck out on the wing for a season. I may have even received a pass once.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I just imagined walking down the hall, which is about 100 meters, give or take (mostly take) 40 meters. 6 seconds.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(tom never did this by the way, although it repeatedly comes up in conversation as being on the list of "things to do")

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

dave225 should be in the olympics! i have to find somewhere that's 100metres to try this out.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

12 seconds dead. Not too bad.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

But you died!!!

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I should think so after running 100m in 12 seconds.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to do this as soon as I can find an athletics stadium.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

My fastest time ever was 11.7 but I also was a gigantic slacker in track practice (also I wasn't really that fast).
