fuuuuuuuck - and there's a very good chance the Reds will hire him asap

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

They're done for the next 6 years.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

And I will post "you can bet on it" only to get over my overwhemling temptation to post such a poor poor joke type thing.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck Daver - you got this before anyone else: nothing on espn or drudge

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

note: even if rose weren't back the reds would still be fucked

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Those lovable bastards @ BP better not be making this up!

This might be the first time that pulling an allnighter actually did some good (relatively speaking).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The Reds call up trashman Aaron Harang before ace-in-training Brandon Claussen = they are eternally behind the eight ball & deserve what they get.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - Gammons has really been laying into them

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - ohmigod I just e-mailed the 'hot tip' in to Drudge!

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

if he ever goes into the Hall, he'd go in as a Red and not as a Phillie. and the Phillies neither want nor need him in their organization. so fuck him.

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Sweet Christ, the guy penciled himself into the lineup for who knows how many years (2? 3?) just so he could scuffle along & stumble into capturing the hit record (undoubtedly at the expense of costing some young studs like Eric Davis needed ABs). Just for that, he should be kept from the Hall.

OMG Eddie Vedder's wearing a Big Black shirt! That is so kewl!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck that, Pete should go into the hall as an Expo

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I still don't see anything on ESPN or SI. Someone please fill me in?

I could go on for hours about my mixed feelings about Pete Rose's ban -- I have, to non-baseball fans, and I think there's a specific circle of hell for that.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

a specific circle of hell for that.

The Upper Deck?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell. Well, my view on the whole thing, condensed, is: it's not very important to me if he actually works in baseball again, but I think it's ridiculous for him to be barred from the Hall of Fame.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't get why so many are so ardent abou this cause. It's like Free Mumia for the masses.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just a thing, like the Shoeless Joe stuff or something. I am totally adamant about my anti-Rose stance, even though I couldn't care less about this whole issue.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't get why so many are so ardent abou this cause.

Part of it is just the usual "we like our athletes, though, we don't want bad things to happen to them." A lot of it is cause it's baseball -- a large chunk of fannishness of which is about history, and the Pete Rose situation directly affects how baseball history is handled. Is the Hall of Fame purely merit-based, which is all it's ever claimed to be? Or is a stamp of approval from MLB, which is how it's acted when the Pete Rose question comes up? Etc.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I think if he had been allowed to go in the Hall of Fame it would be almost a moot point - he wouldn't have made the fucking all century team and gotten louder cheers than Hank Aaron in fucking Atlanta. I used to be strictly anti-Rose (always with the "he was never the best player on his team" argument) but Bill James swayed me a little, at least in terms of whether he gambled on baseball. I still suspect he did but not as open and shut as whether he gambled at all. I still don't like Rose though. I really hate how Rose - 'Charlie Hustle', 'played every game like it was game seven of the World Series', Ray Fosse decimator - whines about Gene Garber ending his hit streak.

I hope he's right about Rose admitting it. I want Rose in the Hall, and I think they're crappy for switching things around to keep him out, but I'd be much more comfortable with the ban being ended if Rose finally admits to the gambling.

Let's start I Love Sports!

(p.s. let's don't)

thirteen years pass...

With the Phillies set to induct Pete Rose into their wall of fame on August 12th, it came to light yesterday that he was accused of statutory rape in a defamation suit court document.
