Ok so I'm putting together this poetry collection and I just don't have a title, and it needs one, and my mind has gone blank, and none of the individual poems seem to offer a title and at this point I must be desperate because I'm asking you to suggest stuff.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"Untitled My Arse" actually sounds like a pretty good title for the whole thing.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

it'd certainly stand out that way, i think anyway.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll file that under 'last resort' for now Bob, though it's surprising how quickly I get through all the other resorts sometimes...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Do the poems have a theme?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Not really. I'd say 'sex' but I fear the future of the thread.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Any good metaphors for beautiful eyes in any of the poems?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"Unexploded Ordinance". (Or, "Exploded Ordinance")

David. (Cozen), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"Your eyes are unexploded ordinance/Targetting my soul"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

"Boom."

David. (Cozen), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"eat my fuc"

i'm truly sorry, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I always thought it was 'ordnance'.

Some of them are here.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, call it "Shades Of Venom"!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Rarrr, hear me vamp!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow Rachel, the ones I have read so far are great. I can't wait to read them all.

I agree with Dan!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

When I saw 'Sour Milk Gill' I thought that it was a line from Kevan Cooke's Belle And Sebastian song generator.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

fold yr hands child you look like mark kermode

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"Never Learn Not to Love" because it's quite pretty but is connected to Charlie Manson

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

There is no doubt: the title should be WONKY PENDULUM.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Archel, its a shame your poems are not pretentious or self obsessed.

Because (& what with them being about sex 'n all) otherwise the collection might have been titled 'Up My Arse'.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

JtN OtM.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"Wisecracks & Seduction".

David. (Cozen), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I wd love to call it Wonky Pendulum.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe its the heat in here but I have been overtaken by the smutty side of my brain. I read 'Wonky Pendulum' but think 'Wonky Donkey'.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you read the poem? You are not associating TOO freely there...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I have read the poem, but the association was already there on reading the upper case bit of JtN's post.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. Well, wonkiness + pendulums = smutty whichever way you look at it, I think.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the poems a lot, but I can't think of a good title.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Sigh. 'Dear S0ciety of Auth0rs, here is my manuscript Wonky Pendulums. Award me money please. Love, Archel'

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I wd love to call it Wonky Pendulum

Then I guess you should.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Call it "Bosom Falls" and pretend it has a deep, thematic meaning to the collection.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude you'll do fine w/"Wonky Pendulum", make out like it's about the passing of time or some such shit if you have to

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Great poems, Archel!

I kind of like the name Duck Soup, but maybe it should be something that relates water/fishing with relationships. Uh, I don't have any suggestions though.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

'Hook, Line & Sinker' ?

(that way we can get an ilx leading light ref too)

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

howzabout _My Untitled Arse_?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Song of the Vacuum

Mike Hanle y (mike), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Rhetorical Lies

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

You have the best last name ever, you don't need a title. It's time we stopped letting musicians have a monopoly on self-titled albums.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

lovely poems archel
'those careless girls in jodhpurs'
wouldn't be awful....

but it's no title.
i think 'untitled my arse'
is still the best one

it sums up your 'tude:
playful, tough, interesting!
and marketable!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha. 'Her eponymous debut collection'. Just proves that musicians are less imaginative/more self-centred than poets, innit.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

But see, the eponymity would be this artistic comment on ... things ... and stuff!

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

New title: Stuff And Things

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Or "Fighting Crime"!

(In college, "fighting crime" -- cause of Coupland -- and "stuff, things" were both euphemisms for "we are having the sex.")

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Stuff And Also Things

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend always answers the phone with "Prosthetics Department!"
That should be the title.
Prosthetics Department!

Mandee, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Stuff Things Up My Arse?

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

But I now want to call it 'We Are Having The Sex'!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You will catch the herpes!

Mandee, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

That's the sequel. "We Have Caughted The Herpes," the follow-up to the smash-hit "We Are Having The Sex"!

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe "We Have Caughted The Herpes" will be the title to my book and my book and archel's can be sold as a package deal on amazon.com.

Buy "We Are Having The Sex" and "We Have Caughted The Herpes" together for only $27.99!

Mandee, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

That would rock. You must do it!

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I dub thee...Sir Loin

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

New title: Stuff And Things

Yes! This is one of my favorite phrases anyway, as those who know me well can attest...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No no no - if you call it "Stuff and Things" I shall the disown the evidently 13-year-old you who still uses smileys to dot her 'i's and is scared of a proper title.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

are you some sort of title rockist, mr C

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry, I was being facetious with Stuff and Things. 13 year old me did NOT use smileys to dot her 'i's, by the way.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Just randomly string some words together. Works for indie rock, right?

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

none of the individual poems seem to offer a title

i like this as a title
