ILXOR life swap

If you could swap lives with someone on ILX, who would it be? Currently for me I am torn betweens Tep's creativity & Gareth as he travels to the most amazing places & has such enthusiasm for them!
So, there are no rules as such to this one. Gender can be put aside along with familes & s/o's. It could be for a day, a week or longer. You decide!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't have to saddle the other person with your life either!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely Gareth, just because I am envious of all the trips he gets to make.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I am keen to go to Australia and magically swapping my life with an IlXoR seems to be a cheap way to do that. I would pick Toraneko as she seems to have an exotic and glamorous lifestyle. Toraneko's side of the deal is a bit less exciting - I hope she's a Dr Who fan.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth has fantastic travel experiences, but he works such long hours, I could never do that, despite the obvious advantages it brings.

I know this will sound boring, but I'm lucky enough to be very happy with my life at the minute. Having said that, it would be nice to swop it with an ILXOR abroad for a while though, to see what it's like, and also with a male, for the experience....

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Go with Gareth, my creativity (thank you!) is wasted on "Hegel and Marx on dialectical movement in history" today. And besides, I mostly write about vampires and guns :)

I don't think I would trade lives, but if I were forced to, I would probably go with one of the NYC Ilxors so I could see the city from their point of view.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone with breasts. Or, seeing as Tep just mentioned writing about vampires and guns, Tep.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but vampires rule!!!

Btw, this is no refelction on my life as I am very happy with my life at the moment! It's just a, you know, what if situ!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to have to go with Vicky's ILXor male abroad answer. I dunno which one, but he has to have a cat and listen to good music.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

that would be me. you get to keep guitaring too

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(But vampire books don't sell! Sorry, I'm still dwelling on that in the back of my head.)

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Wha? What about Ann Rice?

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'd switch lives with Phil.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Anne Rice and Laurell K Hamilton are probably half the problem; the market is flooded (and Rice is ending her vampire chronicles, maybe not coincidentally).

But yeah, I thought the market was fine, too, as long as the book was good, but my rejection amounted to "we would publish this if it wasn't about vampires. We can't sell vampires. Please send us your next book. If it's not about vampires."

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That's terrible! I guess the goths have ruined it for everyone.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want to write a book about vampires, too. With guns. And bizarre metaphysical theories of time and spirit.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess I should swap lives with Phil as well, then he can finally get his mitts on my fiance...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll do a swap with an ILXOR who has a good record collection (you know who you are) though i like Tom's ans of doing a swap with an ILXOR from australia though i'll include NZ too, as i'd like to visit both countries someday.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

If everything I've heard is true, the SPENCER CHOW without a shadow of a doubt.

Although being Momus for a week could be fun. I second Toraneko, as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want to write a book about vampires, too. With guns. And bizarre metaphysical theories of time and spirit.

See, Nick is already me.

(This has been disheartening mostly because I was already writing the sequel, which is all about the weirdness of being very very very old and having perfect recall of 900 years, and how that affects your place in Catholicism ... etc. But with guns. Tep's novels = religious imagery + guns.)

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Chaki.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If I switched with Spencer Chow, I'd immediately become a famous Hollywood actor.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

hulkington, just for the sake of it...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine was gonna be about how it affected the vamp's relationships with real people; ie; even people it loves are like mayflies.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, I like that. In mine -- in the first one, it starts with the protagonist running from vamps who want to kill him cause he used to be a vamp and now he isn't (he doesn't remember why; this is the clock of the first book, trying to find out why he's mortal now). I don't get a chance to explore how it affects his relationships until the second book, where he's divorced because he was relentlessly training his daughter from age 8 to kill vampires.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

With guns.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(And armor-piercing stakes, actually.)

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea. Are any of you rich and hot?

Mandee, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm quite hot at the moment Mandee.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, maybe Dan Perry, he seems a carefree happy man. Except when talking about JT obviously.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

My opening scene was gonna be the vampyre running away from men with dogs and guns, actually, until all but one of the men with dogs & guns loses him, and the vampyre eats the last man.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to switch places with Archel, then, but I'd put on some short shorts to keep cool.

Mandee, Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I would switch places with Mike Hanle y, and spend every day sitting in my pants playing guitar and writing a song about monkeys.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Fret not, Tep, good will out and publishing will happen and etc. :-)

As for me? Good heavens, for a start, whoever would want to swap with me, and could you handle carrying the hair in the proper fashion? I do envy Gareth his trips but I seem to do a fair amount of those too, so hm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I've thought about this and there isn't anyone I'd swap with either, at all, this worries me a bit.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Ned :)

My opening scene was gonna be the vampyre running away from men with dogs and guns, actually, until all but one of the men with dogs & guns loses him, and the vampyre eats the last man.

Not the dogs?

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

No. Why would a vampyre eat a dog? Unless he had some mustard with him. I was thinking it could be a kids book.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I like my life very much, wouldn't trade it for anyone, not here not elsewhere.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Dudes, just switch the vampires to zombies, and voila! Instant commercial success!

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

or young wizards, or maybe young career women who go out to lunch a lot

chris (chris), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, second question, if you could be any other poster FOR ONE WEEK ONLY, who would it be?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, isn't that just the same question but with a week limit?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

No. Why would a vampyre eat a dog? Unless he had some mustard with him. I was thinking it could be a kids book.

Dogs have blood, too!

This is a question I didn't think to raise, actually -- whether vampires must feed on human blood; if so, why; if not, what the .. er, nutritional differences are ... cross-species.

Hrm.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

PP - no, because then people who are perfectly happy with their lives can go and have a metaphysical holiday.

I also wouldn't mind being Dr C, just because it might be fun to be married with kids for a week and play in a band and, like, be good at football and stuff.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I don't like this twee ass "I love my life! I'd never switch!" bullshit on this thread. You're not permanently switching people! Stop trying to impress everyone with your post, I mean I don't want to really switch lives, I'm quite pleased with it but if I was GOING to switch lives, I'd be all about being Phil for like 3 days.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I just don't think I'd switch because I'd get behind on work! That's not twee, it's obsessive workaholism.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be Ally and make many men's lives miserable.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hrmph.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

wife slop

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh see, i think, although I kinda meant that anyway as my choices were for to be for a change as I am happy with my life!
But i like the 'metaphysical holiday' aspect of it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

it is just difficult. like... he is out of town today so i can't do it. there is always something getting in the way of my unemployment.

moving furniture down stairs is really awkward!

tehresa, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

I resigned my last job over the phone. I was stuck in LA area though with no idea when I would see my boss next though.

I can imagine starting this as a service business.

Jaq, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

Does Bob count as a poster? I'd fucking love to be Bob. He spends all day sitting in my favourite chair and occasionally goes schiz at a helium balloon. Genius.

Scik Mouthy, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

Also, he drives people wild with his cuteness. Bob's life wins.

Jaq, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

JAQ you are moving AGAIN?? WTF was wrong with your brick-walled loft with tool chests for kitchen utensil storage, you utter madwoman?

Laurel, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:24 (seventeen years ago)

heheh, look at photos of new place for answer. But also I think I have compulsive moving disorder or something.

I will miss the tool chests.

Jaq, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.brooklandsvideo.com/holiday.jpg

what 4 ilxors can be photoshopped in here?

some dude, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

Whare to find photos of new place??

Laurel, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)

they are linked on one of the itr threads but i can't remember which!

tehresa, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

Laurel, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/illiterati/sets/72157606330731094/

Jaq, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

god, i droll over it.

tehresa, Friday, 25 July 2008 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

How drool, theresa.

Michael White, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

lol oops

tehresa, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:02 (seventeen years ago)

;)

Jaq, I loathe moving with a fixed, unwavering hatred, but your new place looks really great.

Michael White, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

grady, spencer chow or phil-two

sunny successor, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

is anyone here independently wealthy? if so i would like to swap with you plz.

chicago kevin, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

or better yet, who's eating breakfast right now?

chicago kevin, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

there is not a single person who has ever posted here that I have ever wanted to be though at times I wish I was as chill as some of the sub-board folks and the antipodeans. I occasionally envy Keith or Stet who actually know how to get computers to do things besides break and crash but we all play to our own strengths.

El Tomboto, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

lol kevin I am having my first meal of the day but I had to go see Hellboy 2 at 11:05 and there wasn't time beforehand. After my burrito though it's all videogames, crosswords and drinking from here to bedtime.

El Tomboto, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

i woke up late, got to work late, did not have time for food or coffee and could not find my glasses. this is not my best day so far.

i'm fantasizing about french toast and coffee and bacon and sausage and eggs and most of all fresh squeezed orange juice.

chicago kevin, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

The very question doesn't make any sense to my small brane. If I were them, I wouldn't be me wanting to be them, right? Or, if it were my consciousness in their body with their circumstances, my consciousness would be permanently changed and I'd probably fuck up their life in one way or another out of pure inadvertance. I've never wanted to be someone else. I have admired, studied, imitated, and envied other people, but I can't say I'd want to be them, per se.

Michael White, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:14 (seventeen years ago)

That said, it would be kind of cool to have a nice rack for a day.

I was thinking I'd swap with a tall guy for a little while, for the tallness and the guyness.

Jaq, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

this is true. i am kind of curious but i know i'd get sick of it after a day.

i kind of want to know what it's like to be a guy and be able to pee off of buildings, that also looks fun.

bell_labs, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:20 (seventeen years ago)

It is and not just buildings, trust me.

Michael White, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

peeing in the woods v. peeing off of buildings

Mr. Que, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

kind of want to know what it's like to be a guy and be able to pee off of buildings, that also looks fun.

it's fun but it kinda pales in comparison to peeing into buildings.

chicago kevin, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

i know how to pee in the woods though

bell_labs, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

i bet you could figure out how to pee off a building

Mr. Que, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

don't forget writing your name in the snow.

chicago kevin, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

that's one of the best parts of being a guy. that and never getting pregnant.

chicago kevin, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

<insert insensitive menstrual joke here>

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know peeing off a building would just be hard. i could maybe manage it with some kind of harness.

bell_labs, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:35 (seventeen years ago)

Note to bell labs; check the wind direction first. Voice of experience, etc...

Michael White, Friday, 25 July 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

bell labs i believe in you

BLACK BEYONCE, Friday, 25 July 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

These days, I just assume that everything LJ says is some sort of antiquated slang for beating off.

BLACK BEYONCE, Friday, 25 July 2008 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

That's not fair, he's clearly constantly working to invent new slang for beating off.

some dude, Friday, 25 July 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

Michael White, Friday, 25 July 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

Can we switch it to more of a week and/ or month life swap? Not the whole thing? In our imaginations?

I want to switch with LJ for two weeks.
The drag part will be easy;just gotta work on the rest of the stuff!:)
