Minneapolis: I'm Coming Home To Visit 31/8

Finally booked the ticket! Although it's a solo mission - poor Ed will be stuck with the current job market - I'd like people to ¡REPRESENT! if they're going to be around in that week as I see a Triple Rock Social Club FAP happening. Prodigal sons Matos and Perry *may* be home for the long weekend (and if I miss you guys, I wasn't able to book any earlier). Plans so far:

Arrive, drop luggage, basically go to State Fair for Minnesota soul food on a stick. Mmmm.

Friday 5th is Monarques at Triple Rock; my bestie's partner is a Monarque - and we reckoned ILX would be there in some form.

There's a Vikings game on the 15th and my sister's taking me and my stonerdoofus cousin. I don't know how I'll blend in here to be honest.

Those are my only fixed appointments thus far, although I will be in FLA from 6-10th (my mum needs to fix her FLA car and so I venture forth to JebWorld with her JUST BECAUSE).

But that leaves so many other nights. Who's up for this?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(I was waiting for someone to do that)

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder if I would be more edgy if I came from minnesota.

hope you have fun!!

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

you know I was kinda disappointed with all the Minnesotans on this board that not one of you gophers started a "Herb Brooks RIP" thread.

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

oh and obv. this calls for a mega-fap

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

(well, yeah. BUMP)

Wake up Mpls!

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I may be Minnesotan but I'm not a Gopher. (I'm a Crimson. Yay stupid mascots!)

Joei and I will be in town from 8/31 through 9/1. I will have to do some serious negotiations with my folks about procuring time away from the family as they're likely to try to kidnap us out on the boat.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

8/31 through 9/1

*frowns* 24 hours max?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I R STOOPID.

8/29 through 9/1.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, we might have to do breakfast or sumpin' but that's way cool by me.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I was so going to make that 31 months crack too.

Dan I., Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

is it me you're looking for?

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

cause i wonder where you are ...

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Well uh you see I am also from the Twin Cities! And... uh, yeah.

(twiddles thumbs)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

suzy, i am sorting money and there may be a rare chance that i will be there, BUT ONLY IF YOU TAKE ME TO THE WALKER.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You should come Anthony! We'd make sure to get you to the Walker.

Dan I., Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

me have book to write :-(

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

But that's good news apart from your absence, right?

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 14 August 2003 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I wish! I will have three weeks to write it (plenty already written down but not *written* if you catch my meaning)

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 14 August 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I have now found this thread and I APPROVE.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 14 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

WALKERFAP, TRIPLEROCKFAP, FAIRFAP, all brilliant. Keep us posted, k?

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 14 August 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

also, TCILXORKRU, we kinda lost track of each other after the fap we did like 17 years ago. How are all you ppl?? If we're gonna turn this place into the nyc of the upper mississippi, we have to DO BETTER.

James: in truth I'm an Iowan, hockey doesn't exist for me.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 14 August 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I promise if you let me come along I'll shower and stuff

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 14 August 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Will try to join everyone. I like the Walker idea.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Sunday, 17 August 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

::sniff::

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 17 August 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a job interview for a college in red deer on that day.
its a christian college.
they want me to teach sexual ethics.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to the Fair with my sis and one or two friends straight off the plane. It would be way too much like trying to herd cats to try to meet the ILX kru there.

I'm hoping the Perrys can meet me for breakfast in a suitably high-calorie establishment on Monday 1st.

Triple Rock FAP seems like the best bet for me!

Anthony, where the fuck is Red Deer? Is it in Minnesota? Does it conform to Minnesota town naming law ie. 'we've killed all the red deer, let's name the town after them'?

suzy (suzy), Monday, 18 August 2003 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

no its in alberta, however the naming laws apply.
also the one and only gay bar there is called the other place, and it features many many closted farm kids.

would it be bad to think of this as a positive thing ?

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the names given to gay bars in small towns and cities.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

so do i, recently the edmonton dyke bar changed from secerts to prism.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

prismer cell block H

suzy (suzy), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

should this be its own thread ?

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Joei and I are probably going to the fair on Sat. Monday morning breakfast sounds like a FANTASTIC idea to me; I will email you digits.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

What day does the fair begin? I think I might go on the first day. I've heard it isn't quite as crowded.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm think I'm going to be in town Fri. the 29th, I'm playing some party or wedding on a riverboat.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I am all up for the Triple Rock, though I think it's gotten totally batshit crowded there since they opened the music venue. Maybe Matt's would work (though my carless ass would need a ride).

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

At least we wouldn't be going to Triple Rock the night before, it would be totally crowded cause of Dillinger Four. Talk about misguided scenesterism.

Dan I., Wednesday, 20 August 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

FAIRFAIRFAIRFAIR. I can already feel my arteries hardening.

Dan, I've mailed your AOL. If you don't get mail, let me know, might IM for awhile tonight.

I am DUTY BOUND for 3-Rock action on the Friday to meet Chris, my friend who threatens to begin posting here soon. I could always make the Let's All Drink Beers at Bunny's With Mr. Tice suggestion but you know what? My sister would probably kill us all, and we do not mess with The Betsy.

I also like to drink at the Red Dragon! Mmmm, Red Dragon...

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahhh, the Dragon.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone ever eaten the Red Dragon food? 'Cos I kind of PHEAR it.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, jesus it's fucking horrible! the pineapple in their fruity drinks is about as food as you wanna go.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

G-ff, I know! I just wanted a tally to award medals for bravery. I remember when the loungecore people discovered that place, we were all like 'have the pu-pu platter, it's REALLY GREAT!'

Little deep-fried parcels of Red Dragon DEATH, see?

Should this be our FAP venue? Fabulous Blender Drinks are about $5 and are fishbowl-sized.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have eaten Red Dragon food, and I only recently recovered. And I'm a constitution-hardened Minneapolis boy!

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Aww Matos, Chris and I are so bummed you're not going to be in town.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ick god a friend of mine seemed to like the sesame chicken there, which is basically chicken nuggets with orange syrup on them.

beyond that tho, DRAGONFAP is a good idea I think.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone been Asia? That place seemd pretty cool. We were sitting outside around 1:30 am and narrowly avoided a random drive-by egging. EGGING. WTF.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

this is a hard city.

Asia (dumm name) was pretty good, I'd go again but the food is a little pricey. I had a thai green chicken curry that was the color of Gumby.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, chicken curry...

Dan I., Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm Gumby...

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

can you get a photo of the corner of 15th and franklin for me, plz?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm bummed too! I would certainly have tried to crash the Suzy-Dan Perry breakfast, among many other things....

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

bump. what's up?

Dan I., Wednesday, 27 August 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet they're having lots of fun without us. Boo! Elitists!

(I am at least up for meeting g--ff again sometime now that I've read about his demo tape horrors)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 28 August 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Was there ever an agreed upon date/time? Or am I just dense?

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Thursday, 28 August 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think so yet, but suzy doesn't even show until 8/31.

Nate, a drink sounds great, but I don't know what 'demo tape horrors' I've had, or where you'd read abt them!

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 28 August 2003 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be in town starting tomorrow late morning.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 28 August 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know what 'demo tape horrors' I've had

"In the Midnight Hour"?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 28 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

oh christ yes that!! ha I must have blocked it out. sorry, I've been out of that office and in grad school orientation for a week, my mind is near mush.

...for some reason I thought this Dragon thing was happening tomorrow night, is that the story??

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 28 August 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

tomorrow as in SATURDAY.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 28 August 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Just back from Paris, Barcelona and French Catalonia - more tomorrow!

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 28 August 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but the red dragon!! Paris, pfui.

obv it's not tomorrow, as that is still, of course, before 8/31.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 28 August 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, I've worked out a way to get email while home.

People who want to come out to play, PLEASE mail to artskooldiskoontour at yahoo dot com and I'll sort out a Red Dragon FAP from consensus and mail everyone back. Will not take place the nights of Sept 6 thru 9 due to Florida minibreak.

Dan I have your digits and I'm thinking that even Perkins would be cool because the Edina one particularly summons memories of 'no, we're not going to seat you kids in Smoking'.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 30 August 2003 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god the Edina Perkins is bringing shit back I never even thought I had

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 31 August 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Truancy and croissant sundaes, I'll wager...

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 31 August 2003 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

nah, wasn't much of a truant--had baby sisters to babysit as a teenager. more like where my best friend (who lived nearby) and I would go after he finished his KFAI radio show in my late teens/early 20s

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 31 August 2003 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

gff did you have something to do with a demo tape of the awesome ice cube rap-rock masterpiece 'in the midnight hour'!?!?

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 31 August 2003 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

suzy has asked me to bump this, mail her

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand all the bouncy-bouncy with the yahoo address, I just checked it.

more later, ahma goin' uptown...

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed (dali), Friday, 5 September 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 5 September 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll likely stop there after Off the Record (6-ish). Maybe I'll see you guys.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Friday, 5 September 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! I'm going for happy hour with my best friend here and we will be at Rock x 3 for about eight, which is when doors are, she says. Monarques are on around 9.00 sez Matt.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 5 September 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 5 September 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

::sniff::

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 5 September 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Me = broke (as in completely/utterly) and am therefore not very likely to be able to go; also it would take me forever to get from home to the West Bank on the shitty shitbus that eats shit. Ergh. Sorry.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 5 September 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
how did this end up going, anyhow? I ask because I'M COMING TO MPLS 6/24-7/2 (cough)
