perhaps an absurd concept concept

I read that article. I think there's something in it. Fear stimulates the adrenal glands, which also contribute to sexual arousal. A sense of 'the end of the world' makes people lower their standards and their need for commitment in the same way 'the end of your holiday' makes you seek out holiday romance. And I think there may be some deep human instinct to repopulate the earth when we see death on the scale New Yorkers witnessed two weeks ago.

The concept isn't that absurd. The catchphrase attached to it, though, is most definitely strange. I think some Fox exec is drooling, thinking of the reality show they can build around such a title. Blair Witch meets Temptation Island - it'll sell.

David Raposa, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah the title was sensationalist and rather ill considered, but the actual content really struck a chord. What that professor from Yale had to say was especially pertinent.

I had half been thinking about this whole thing last week, sorta wondering if there'd be something like this -- and apparently there is. Quietly fascinating.

Just going by the title, I thought this was going to be about people role-playing scenes from "Friday The 13th" or "Nightmare On Elm Street", which would just be disturbing.

It's not a concept at all, it's just a plain fact.

I remember reading about this during the Gulf War, apparently the bars in Tel Aviv were pretty, um... lively. And WW2 must have illicited a fair share of "End of The Affair" moments.

Maybe people just want to feel human again. I think it's reassuring.

"If it's not love then it's the bomb that will bring us together..."

The writing about sex in Salon is always so lip-smackingly funless, though. It's a great advert for celibacy. I personally have found solace in 'terror lager' and will be pitching to Salon later this week.

I thought this thread would focus on sex with Roseanne Barr or something.

i am afflicted with terror cartoon network: it has entirely dispelled my previous problem = torpor cartoon network

mark s, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am affected by it but am not actually doing anything about it, what's the matter with me?

Ally, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The concept of "terror sex" occurred to me very early on when, on the night of the 11th and the nights thereafter, I kept getting through to my recently-moved-to-NYC girlfriend's cellphone and finding her at the home of her new friend "Kevin."

Nitsuh, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
