Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

6:30-7:00 Wake up to the melodious sounds of NPR, shower, put in contacts, make myself beautiful
7:00 Start trying to wake up Sarah, talk to her, let the cats in so that Pepper can lay on top of Sarah
7:15 Leave for work, listen to NPR or music for a little bit
7:30 Arrive at work. Pretend to work.
1:00 Lunch. Eat something greasy. Get some reading done.
2:00 Back to work.
5:00 Go home. Change clothes. Watch King of the Hill and/or the Simpsons until...
5:30 Sarah gets home. We talk a little bit, decide what we want to do.
6:00 If it's Monday or Thursday, I leave for band practice. Otherwise, we eat some dinner.
7:00 Watch TV, play video games, play guitar, record stuff, read books, go on walks, maybe even go to a movie. Chaos ensues.
10:00-10:30 Go to bed. Try to go to sleep. Sarah starts worrying about something. I tell her to chill out and go to sleep.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Basically, what Nick said.
Except, when he leaves for work, I stay in bed and start to fall back asleep. Then, I get worried that I'll oversleep so I put an extra pillow under my head and turn on the lamp. Then at some point I turn off the AC because it lulls me. And I stay there listening to the news or music. And after my bath or shower, I get back in bed and stare at the ceiling some more and daydream. It's a wonder I'm on time to work every day.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

4:30 Alarm
4:40 up, go to shower
4:50 dress, make breakfast
5:00 fire up tv and computer, eat while watching news and reading news stories online. Bookmark any interesting stories for later use.
5:25 pack up computer, final mirror check, kiss b/f goodbye
5:30 drive to work
5:40 meet with co-host, discuss interesting stories, make jokes
5:50 first break on the air (will spare you details of my radio show)
9:00 off air, rest of the day could be anything...highlights include getting new CDs in the mail, talking with record label people, having musicians in studio, getting excited about music and promotions, coming up with brilliant ideas, getting things done. lowlights include meetings, paperwork, arguing with sales staff, disciplining staff, nagging people to do their job, not coming up with any brilliant ideas whatsoever.
4:00-7:00 make it home sometime in this range, then cook dinner, have a beer, watch TiVo, kiss on b/f, have a little smoke, go to bed and read. Try to fall asleep before 9 or preferably 8.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

why are all snoozes nine minutes? i used to know this

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I was asking that question just this weekend.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Because ten minutes would be too long and eight too short?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Why does the alarm clock snooze button give you nine extra minutes, not ten?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe its so the latter two digits are completely different with each snooze, thereby minimizing the potential for mid-sleep, blurry-eyed fuckups of the "oh shit its 7:50 - i thought it said 7:20" variety

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine has an eight minute snooze. I knew there was something wrong with my mornings.

Emma, Wednesday, 13 August 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

7:50 - hit snooze button on clock radio & cell phone alarm
7:59 - repeat
8:04 - wake to NPR. wonder where i am.
8:05 - turn on computer, fire up Soulseek & kazaa for that day's downloading
8:07 - dig thru clean clothes pile for band t-shirt that doesn't have scandalous artwork on it, find clean pair of khakis/jeans
8:15 - fix hair, find keys, put that day's CDs in satchel(a.k.a "man purse"), stomp downstairs, turn off overnight lights
8:25 - leave for work(yeah right), listen to NPR, avoid road construction
8:30 - walk 200-400 meters from space in huge parking lot into building
8:34 - log in. fire up email, opera, ILX, Livejournal, job software. begin that day's fucking around, dig clamshell headphones out of desk drawer
9:00 - head to food shop/deli/ass-rape food sellery place, purchase unhealthy breakfast sandwich
9:05 - return to desk & consume breakfast, fire up CD player
9:10 - 12:30 - Jesus, you fucks get paid THIS much money and you don't know how to probably fill out a mortgage application. STOP CALLING ME YOUR SHIT WILL BE DONE WHEN ITS DONE. why won't this desk fan work? NPR sucks today. Oh, how nice, your mommy & daddy are buying you a house, aren't they? You make THAT much money? Not fuckin' hardly.
12:30 - drive back into town for lunch/CD shopping. or stay at building to eat in rip-off deli and nap in car
1:30 - back to the fun. flip thru applications, bank statements, tax returns. have rather dull & pedesterian sexual fantasies involving certain acquaintances, that chick who was playing bass last night, certain ILX types, that chick who sings in the band playing tonight, etc. check email every 30-75 seconds. respond immediately. drink more beverages. scramble to meet underwriting quotas.
5:30 - i wonder if the new Onion is online yet? Oh well, time to go home.
5:45 - get the fuck out of my way, your construction truck is blocking the lane.
6:00 - oh look, the housemates haven't taken the trash out yet. i wonder who's online right now? time to fire up IM. What? only THAT many of my soulseek downloads happened? oh, it's cuz you banned me. fuck you, too, jack. You're not getting any of my Spiritualized boots, then.
6:30 - enough of that. nap time!
7:00 - enh. fuck consciousness. more nap time!
7:40 - i should probably get something to eat.
8:10 - time to play some Wolfenstein. i better plug my battery charger in for tonight.
10:10 - time to head to the show / i'd better practice my bass some. then, time to play Grim Fandango / i wonder if anybody wants to go to the pub tonight?
12:10 - have i updated my nerve ad lately? time for a shower
12:45 - i should really go to bed / jeez that opening band sucked
1:25 - okay, i REALLY need to stop reading the Something Awful forums and go to bed
1:45 - lights out
2:15 - fuck, i hate insomnia

repeat over and over and OVER AND OVER AND FUCKIN' OVER AGAIN

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

6:10 -- sometimes alarum, sometimes not, if I'm already awake and have shut it off

7.40 Alarm. Shave, wash, dress, pick out music for walkman, etc.
8.05 leave house. Get tube. Walkman and book accompaniment.
8.55 arrive at work. I'm a systems analyst and programmer at a university, so anything in that line.
1-2 or when I get around to it: lunch hour. Occasionally go shopping (records, comics) or to British Museum, mostly ILX.
5.00 leave work
5.50 home. Quick shower (if I'm home late and there's something on TV at 6 (Simpsons!) this will be delayed).
6-11 or 12. Get online. Catch up on ILX. AIM chats. Any long threads, load but save to read offline. Food sometime. Some TV. Some music. Read newspapers.
11 or 12 - go to bed. Read a bit before sleeping.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Wake up, shower, caffeine (usually in pill or diet Red Bull form), wake up. If it's a horrible evil summer semester day, "waking up" means checking email, getting some of that breakfast Chex Mix stuff, catching the bus, going to class, having cigarettes, and coming home. On weekends I can jump right to the real day:

Hi cats! Hi girlfriend! Hi ESPN!

Until 3:00 or so, do either entertainment type stuff -- television, movies, reading whatever magazine came in the mail -- or mindless stuff like homework, studying, responding to email. No matter what time I wake up, or how much sleep I got, I don't hit my mental stride until about 3:00.

Check mail, sort bills, possibly finally remember to take off today's page on the page-a-day calendar.

3:00 -- ideally, start work. Usually the sort of thing I do in the afternoon is organizational, revising, etc.

Hi cats! Hi girlfriend! Hi ESPN!

Make dinner, eat dinner, maybe watch movie with girlfriend and/or cats, make sure cats are fed and water is fresh, do dishes, tend to whatever needs doing for tomorrow's meals -- i.e. thawing, marinating, things of that sort.

Real work starts around 8:00ish and ideally goes for the next six hours. The hour's difference in television schedules has thrown me off a bit, because I'm used to unwinding post-dinner with an hour of primetime television before hitting the keys, but I point you again to: hi cats! Hi girlfriend! Hi ESPN!

or mindless stuff like homework, studying !!

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not an especially good student, per se. School's a hobby. But most of that stuff, too, it's like -- I forgot to take my Spanish class pass/fail, so it's just crap like "insert the impersonal se in the following sentences where it needs to go, bitch," and my Poli Sci class was just a lot of "hey, dig Locke smacking Hobbes," and whatnot.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell is with ILE's food fetish today? It's only food, folks, not love.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Fork you, Tep!

oops (Oops), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't make me clog your arteries, Binky.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

You couldn't clog my arteries if you were the most artery-clogging thing ever produced at We're All About Artery Clogging LTD and God himself ordered a clogging jihad on my infidely arteries.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Could so infinity.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

(This thread is so I know you are but what's your mother.)

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahh, school is back and so is my routine:

6-6:30 hit snooze.

6:30 Shower, dress, cats, pack up laptop, gather papers

7:10 or so - Leave for work. Possibly stop to get gas, soda. Eat Slim Fast bar in car on way. Listen to NPR or gangsta rap depending on mood, day ahead.

7:50 Sign in at school. Get ready for first period.

8:15-12:08 Two 7th grade classes, One 8th grade, One planning period.

12:08-12:38 Lunch. Usually a Lean Cuisine or a nasty burger from the cafeteria. Avoid students, read paper, maybe check mail/ILx quickly

12:44 - 3:30 Two 8th grade and One 7th grade class.

3:30-5:00 Different each day: staff development, faculty mtgs, my Webmaster club, tutoring/detention

5-5:30 Head home, pick up some fast food.

5:30 - 7:30 Watch simpsons et al (if TV is working), get online, think about grading papers/lesson plans

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

A normal day? Doesn't exist in my life.

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

7.30 woken by annoying tones of Red Symons on ABC radio. Hit snooze button without even moving anything apart from my arm. Fall back asleep.
7.39-8.10ish - repeat snooze button bashing and alternate ABC radio DJ batherings about John Howard.
8.10 - sit up, look for wearable clothes in pile of black stuff all over the floor, try to convince Nick to wake up by promising I'll make him tea.
8.20 - 9.10 get dressed, feed cat before she eats me, make very strong 3-cup espresso, have that with 2-3 panadiene pills and some toast, browse the net quickly if I've time, leave for work.
9.10-10am - walk 20 mins to tram stop, sit on Chapel st tram for forever in traffic getting to Richmond
10.05 - start work late, as per usual. Sit staring into space and/or reading livejournal til I wake up a bit more.
12 - lunch for a half hour or so
12.30-6 more work, browsing, staring into space, being grumpy, being interrupted trying to listen to my mp3s.
6-7pm - get on tram and either go straight home, or spend a cold miserble 45 minutes buying and hauling home very heavy shopping bags alone on foot (I hate this with a passion)
7-8pm come home, feed cat, sit on couch, smoke several cigs and drink a little bit of cider or wine, try to wind down, watch Frasier and Simpsons reruns.
8-10pm Nick gets home, I make dinner, smoke some pipes, sit around writing or watching TV or watching Nick design 3D animations, play Sims, clean up the house a bit.
10-11pm collapse into bed and feel guilty that I fall asleep almost immediately.

Lather, rinse, repeat. I'm getting sick of my routine.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 14 August 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

0743 - Throw bowl of instant porridge down my throat and protein shake while dressing in shirt, tie, suit, pants combo.

0820 - Arrive at school. Check mail, Livejournal, ILX.

0855 - Chapel. Use the opportunity to sleep.

Mike Stuchbery, Thursday, 14 August 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Today's not normal bcz I am ready and leaving ON TIME and will probably be at work EARLY traffic permitting. Also it being Thursday I have a briefing this afternoon which means I get out probably even earlier than usual. Hot diggity.
