Shityeah! I forgot about that one too - I actually looked a bit scary for the first time in my life! (ok, really I looked like a gay nazi alien, but still, that's quite scary, don'tchathink?)

I have natural blonde hair but for the past few years have been dying it v dark brown (almost black). NB I'm not a goth and it looked great - I just got fed up with having blonde roots every few weeks, it looked weird, and I couldn't be bothered to do my roots often enough. So anyway, as you can't really go from that dark back to blonde, I decided to grow it out using semi-permanent dark brown dye to cover the roots. I think it's about grown out now so is all only semi-permanent muky brown (with 1-inch blonde roots because I haven't touched it in months - it looks kind of dip-dyed) and looking pretty crappy.
So I think I'm about ready to get it dyed light again. The problem is I've just moved to across the Atlantic, so no trusty hairdress here, and have never had my hair coloured professionally before. I chose this salon based on Yelp reviews and went in for a consultation. The guy seemed ok and suggested a half-head of highlights. But I AM SCARED!He seemed to think going fairly blonde would be achievable. Any advice? Is it ok to dye over semi-permanent without 'lifting' or stripping the colour? Also, I definitely don't want stripey hair, although the guy said this wouldn't happen - it would look like natural blonde. Hm.
