An abnormal day...

Sod normality, tell us about your weekends, your holidays, that ad hoc day-off you take with no plans of what to do so you can just do stuff you like...

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 14 August 2003 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Sunday morning woke up quite early (for a sunday!) about 8ish, got James some alka seltzer & then helped to ease his headache with something else. Got up & made cups of tea for us both about 9. Walked into the garden & decided that we should go to the seaside. Came back into the house, told James. Jumped into the shower & got dressed. Picked up some munchies at the supermarket, for the journey, on the way & then hit the road. Spent the day paddling in the sea, eating fish & chips & ice cream, sunbathing & playing on the amusements (inclusive of air hockey & 2p slide machines). Drive home later a little tired & a little pinker. Get home around 8, break the glove box on the car open which has decided to break shut, as the house keys are in there. Phone a friend. Watch tv, eat some sandwiches & pringles. curl up on the sofa & then go to bed about 11. cuddle up in bed. What a nice day!! *sigh*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 14 August 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

A day spent unemployed (today):

Went to bed at 4 last night, inadvertently woke up my girlfriend, we had loving but ultimately unclimactic sex until about 5. Woke up at 9:30 to the sound of the phone, hoping for good news. It was my mother, asking why I had skipped Houston only one day after arriving. I had no good explanation. I always go a little crazy in Houston. Spent the rest of the morning calling apartment renters, hoping for a better deal, as the place we had settled on is now asking for two months rent as security deposit. I think they think we're complete fucking idiots. Spent the early afternoon receiving callbacks on apartments. The first place wants to charge us two months rent as security deposit. This seems higly unusual to me.. we don't even have a dog. What is with Chicago? Do they hate Texans? The second place place demands that we have our cats declawed, despite the fact that it has hardwood floors. WTF? Yet another place wants $725 for about 475 sq. ft. But, they stress, it has new carpet. Oh, so I can worry about spilling things on it, while not having room for a table or a chair. Bonus. Frustrated, I write a friend in town. Do you know of any apartments? He writes back: "There are shitloads of apts for renting. The Chicago rental market is in a total slump right now. Seriously. You should be able to get a great deal." I go have a cry, then a long nap, emotionally and physically exhausted as I am. Wake up from nightmares around 6 -- a bear was chasing me. Eat. Watch TV. Sleep more, now thoroughly depressed. Wake up for The Daily Show, which I do not laugh at. Back to sleep. I dream of being ripped from an airplane and falling into the ocean and drowning. See, I dove into the water just right, and didn't hurt myself, but went in so deep that I couldn't swim back up. Wake up at midnight. Start drinking the only bottle of wine in the house, which is truly awful and was probably for cooking. Which brings me to now.

Woke up at 1.30, nearly watched some "Brideshead Revisited" w/mum, didn't, messed around on the internet a bit, read for a couple of hours, went off w/mum to see the newish lambs, harrassed the pigs and tried not to sink in their ridiculously muddy enclosure, went back on the internet, made dinner, ate dinner, and here we are. The book's good.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 14 August 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

This isn't that unusual, actually, it's just I only spend a day a week at home now, and it FEELS unusual.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 14 August 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Tomorrow will be like that, due to a day off work because of a shift swap. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 August 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

June the 4th 1973 was much like any other summer's day in Petersburg, and Ralph Melish, a file clerk at an insurance company, was on his way to work as usual when... nothing happened. Scarcely able to believe his eyes, Ralph Melish looked down. But one glance confirmed his suspicions. Behind a bush on the side of the road, there was no severed arm. No dismembered trunk of a man in his late fifties. No head in a bag. Nothing...not a sausage. For Ralph Melish, this was not to be the start of any trail of events which would not, in no time at all, involve him in neither a tangled knot of suspicion nor any web of lies, which would, had he been not uninvolved, surely have led to no other place than the central criminal court of the Old Bailey. But it was not to be. Ralph Melish reached his office in Dallezll Street, Petersburg, at 9:05 am. Exactly the same time as he usually got in.

Secretary: Morning Mr. Melish.

Melish: Morning Enid.

Enid, a sharp eyed, clever young girl, who had been with the firm for only 4 weeks, couldn't help noticing the complete absence of tiny but telltale bloodstains on Mr. Melish's clothing. Nor did she notice anything strange in Mr. Melish's behaviour that whole morning! Nor the next morning. Nor at any time before or since the entire period she worked with that firm.

M: Have the new paper clips arived Enid?

S: Yes, they're over there Mr. Melish.

But for the lack of any untoward circumstances for this young secretary to notice, and the total non-involvement of Mr. Melish in anything illegal. The full weight of the law would have ensured that Ralph Aldis Mellish would have ended up like all who challenge the fundamental laws of our society: in an iron coffin with spikes on the inside.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Not very long ago actually; buckets are GREAT.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh heavens no! :-)

I just woke up twenty minutes ago, normally I'm up at 6 am anyway. VERY warm here, so today will likely be a scorcher. I will alleviate the worries by disappearing into an air conditioned record store or something. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

gaz (gaz), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

T please Bob

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got a fortnight off work after today and no plans at all (except going to see my mum for a couple of days) so several abnormal days ahead...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Can i have a cake with my tea pls Mark!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Mm cake. Today has been moderately abnormal so far in that it involved cake (lemon and pine nut baked by Matt) AND a picture of some pubes. And I wasn't expecting either.

Tonight I am going out for drinks with work, which is also unusual and may lead to ruin.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Financial ruin?

I am hopefully meeting my best friend's new gf tonight, which is kind of unusual seeing as he was with the last one for over 6 years.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm that's always a weird one!!
