At Thirst on Greek Street in Soho specifically, friends of mine are running a night which might be fun, could be quite mental I don't really know, but if anyone's up for it come along, they want a big crowd obviously.

I'll be there myself also. Letting you all know.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 14 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

What sort of nite Ronan?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 14 August 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm guessing "bangin'" :)

that's my payday and i'm off all of next week too, so it's a possible.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 August 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Not hyper mental bangin' or anything, it is a pub not a club I imagine so maybe not too mental. As bangin' as you make it usually, the sideroom will be all sorts of music I think, or the second room or whatever way the place is laid out.

The mainroom is going to be a friend of my brothers who promotes alot, he's a house dj I think, not too mental, the people who go along are all a nice bunch aswell.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 14 August 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

nice bangin': it's this thing!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 14 August 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Emma keeps demanding that.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 14 August 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

This sounds great, and is on the night Ed returns from hippie camp.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 14 August 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

arrrrgh, its Audio Bullys at Cargo this night and i've got guestlist for that, but obv. i wanna make it to this too - will they let me in around midnight?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 14 August 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

steve, that sounds so fun but I reckon Ed would haaaaaaaaaate it.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 14 August 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

they might Steve, they might. real answer: i don't know, it's your city afterall

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

im back in london on the 19th = i might come to this!

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

you gotta mark! then we can go find that tramp again and get my £2 back

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My therapist tells me I need to feel a voibe. Would this be the right place to find one?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 14 August 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Having heard Ronan's brother DJ before, I'm up for it. The Audio Bullys can eat a dick.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 August 2003 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

its Ronan's brother's mate that i rate

stevem (blueski), Friday, 15 August 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that may be who Matt means, sadly Phil is not coming over this time. he is indeed a fun dj.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 15 August 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

bump bump bump

R2K (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this likely to be a late one?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

it ends at 3 but you will not be physically prevented from leaving earlier. I won't be too late cos I'm going to Tribal Gathering on Saturday and need to save brain.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaah, but is your brain up for LOST on top of all that - that is the question?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I am still in Manchester I think sadly, back for the Notting Hill stuff on Monday though if you fancy Jon Carter/Audio Bullys/ etc?

Not the MOST appetising lineup I concede.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i should be able to get there before midnight - i trust the bar will still be open (what time did they stop letting people into Zatek, Ronan?)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 18 August 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't stay terribly late, but an early start would suit me - will people get to this pub early on, or might we meet elsewhere first?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh Thirst do half price cocktails on occassion. It's not the largest bar in the world, but it's nice. Last time I was there they had mini bags of Jelly Bellies on the bar as snacks. < /easily won over>

Anna (Anna), Monday, 18 August 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

jelly bellies the new chewing gum, ew. I got my tribal gathering ticket today, still excited.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

So is anyone up for meeting at either Thirst or somewhere else early on, like 6 or so?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, after conversation elsewhere a couple of us at least plan to get to this pub around 6pm.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I get into the airport at a quarter past 7 so I'll probably see you all there sometime after that, cancel work tomorrow.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 August 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i was going to come to this but having had a terrible night's sleep it's looking a lot less likely. i'll see how i feel this afternoon.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 21 August 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's tidying not raving for me tonight and I suspect tomorrow will be quite heavy - good luck though Ronans brothers mate et al.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

work? hahaha, good one Ronan

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

it won't be a rave! at least if that puts people off, it can be a rave, if you decide to get fucked anywhere can be a rave! It doesn't have to be though. I am just up for a few drinks and some dancing.

Despite my cancel work nonsense upthread I'm fairly ragged myself today, shaky and sweaty after overindulging in imported bottled beer.

So yeah come along anyone, say hello or whatever suits, it's not my evening or really my thread, I'm just trying to say "it's all good" in a roundabout way here!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

So are people meeting at Thirst early doors? I can actually pop along for a couple but I want anyone else there to start saying "shelves shelves shelves" to me if I'm still there at 8 or later.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there at 6, and I know I'm not going to be the only one, Tom.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm now thinking about coming along and cancelling work tomorrow. it does depend on me writing at least five pages this afternoon, though. we'll see.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there at 6, in fact I'll have to kill time cos I finish work at 4.30. I could stay in the office and play on the net, but I really don't wnat to be in here any longer than is necessary.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be up for coming to a quick drink pre, if there is one. Can someone who knows what's going on send me a wee email by about 5 this afternoon - sorry to be lazy but I'm easily confused.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I am coming, but I'm going home by about 11 - I can't be doing with a late one tonight.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Eh, will potter along. Unsure if I'll go home to pick up my glasses first though. If I don't, there is to be NO COMMUNICATING VIA SIGN LANGUAGE, because that would just be taking the piss and I would immediately transform into Miserable Bastard 57.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

should be there around 8 myself, flight into city at 7.15 so obviously asap after that.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

right, ile bare-knuckle boxing is *so* happening.

also, i believe i'm now reigning ile arm wrestling champion. challenges are welcome.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

that was stupid, i was ill, i was supposed to go home at 11, big day at work, it was kinda ok till maybe 11 or 12 then it got really good once stevem turned up (this was incidental, not due to steves presence, obv;))

graffiti ~ what is the problem? this record has grown on me now.

there was good dancing, i didnt have my caddy with me though sadly

unfortunate side effect of night out? i am now going to seattle for a beer at the end of september. why? because stevem said i wouldnt. i will though

gareth (gareth), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

toby, dude, but ***I*** am the ILX thumb-war champeen, you see i had to beat mark c at something dammit. fuck dat bare-knuckle bidness.

other unfortunate side effect of night out - gareth sans keys because ed had them as part of early night initiative (see above), me out cold despite agreeing to be the letter-inner, gareth buzzes and buzzes flat bell for i don't know how long because ed woke up while i slept through to let poor gareth in!

gareth you did get the text saying get home, am flagging etc?

ha ha i knew the graffiti record would HIT eventually.

ronan if i'd have tried to do chinese at 2am it would've gone all chew'n'spew, next time ok?

suzy (suzy), Friday, 22 August 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

do you not have three sets of keys between you?!

suzy your thumb war technique was indeed impressive. if you're called on to defend your title you should definitely wear those gloves again, they added a touch of class to the proceedings.

i'm pretty glad i left when i did, i had the longest night's sleep i've had in ages.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 22 August 2003 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel fine, if a little tired. We ended up in a pub that used to be a boxing venue.

chris (chris), Friday, 22 August 2003 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel like i am made of plasticene by a four-yr-old

mark s (mark s), Friday, 22 August 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry for not making it out. Didn't manage to get home until 8pm, felt very shaky and had to have an extended slump on the sofa. It was gone ten by the time I'd pulled myself together and I thought it wouldn't be worthwhile to go by then. See some of you at Lost on Sunday, yes?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 22 August 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm up for Lost - AND Carnival on Monday - join us or die, can you not see we are serious?

tried to take some pics last night, and some video footage of Gareth's 'extraordinary' dancing, but my crappy camera only works properly outside in natural light, i'll bring the decent camera next time. Gareth's dancing has to experienced by all

best bit: Fraggle is the only night i get to hear Archigram's glorious 'Carnival' in a club setting and they obliged again.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 22 August 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark thankyou for making me go home and do the shelves (NB I didn't do them. But I did some other tidying). The music was all indie disco when I left - THUMBS UP! But I hated the venue. Nice to see the people I did, sorry to miss the people I didn't.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The music was rubbish when I left, but ace when I arrived - it was all summer hip-hop and Beyonce/Madonna mashups.

Will Smith does not get enough love on ILX. Show me some Will Smith threads to revive, someone.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

There are in fact two sets of keys to the flat, not three as needed, because we have one of those 'special' do-not-duplicate front door keys and FUCKING STUPID HURFORD SALVI CARR (who 'manage' our bldg. for hefty service charges) have only gone and lost the certificate you're supposed to bring along to the locksmith, who can lose his license to trade if he cuts one of these keys without seeing paperwork.

Ed needs to ring Worthless Salvi Carr like RIGHT NOW.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i like the idea that i may actually have got home before gareth

stevem (blueski), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Is ringing worthless salvi carr a higher priority than beard shaving?

Ed (dali), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

YOU HAVE A BEARD!?

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(toby has a proto-beard at the moment - the disease spreads)

Anna (Anna), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Larcole to London! Quick!

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been in a field in yorkshire for two and a half weeks, singing folk music, building things with string and entertaining children, not to mention feeding them, therefore I have a beard.

Ed (dali), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

They do have razors in Yorkshire you know.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

they wittle them out of beech leaves

mark s (mark s), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the problem, where I was, the trees were mainly oak, hawthorn, hazel and rowan.

Ed (dali), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

it is only a matter of time before ed actually becomes a tree

gareth (gareth), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

PYLON!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, Suzy, you didn't beat me at thumb war. It was a draw. AND the black gloves made it *impossible* to actually *see* your thumb, AND I beat you at arm wrestling. So off that high horse, you might injure it with those spiky shoes :)

Ronan, great to meet you!

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it wasn't quite clear to me what happened at the end of the thumb war *but* it looked like suzy might just have won. sight screens should have been used, though.

oh and the proto-beard went this morning, thankfully.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

sight screens shd always be used at faps

mark s (mark s), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed the Ent, i like it

stevem (blueski), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Suzy won the thumb war as well. I think Mark C is lying to us.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it must be all that thumbing through magazines she has done...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I will defeat these beards as I encounter them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, it certainly isn't through counting PILES AND PILES of lovely, lovely CASH...grr.

Mark is being a very sore loser, so I feel duty-bound to mention that I warred thumb with a gloved right hand. It was easy to see in the bar, which was mainly white.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 22 August 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Picture the scene. Suzy fights thumb war wearing a black glove with a long black sleeve in front of a black dress. At night (okay, not the last bit). Also, you didn't win! You had me for less than a second!

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 22 August 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

toby nearly joined us.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 22 August 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark, you are facing an uphill battle that's about to get all concave on yr ass. Leave it.

Anyway - sorry for being so fucking shit all night, I was sort of being crushed by how little I belonged in that place, and probably still reeling from being charged TWO POUND EIGHTY for a 330ml can of Schweppes ginger beer. Not even Idris or DG's, Schweppes for god's sakes. I could've got at least three meat pies for that, and I get a can of ginger beer with added 'ponce'. Blecch.

Pleasure to meet Ronan and Zemko at long last, tho.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 22 August 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I am really sorry I missed Mark getting outmuscled by one of the lightest people I know.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 August 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)
