NYC area musicians, wanna studio?

Here's the deal. I have about 50 boxes of books and CDs etc which have been in a Manhattan Mini-Storage unit in West SoHo, NYC, for three years now. The fees (which keep going up) are killing me, and I've decided to ship everything to Berlin. But I don't have the money to do that right now, and may not have it for another six months to a year.

So I'm looking for someone in the NYC area who has a big basement or garage and can host these boxes until I can get them shipped.

Now why would someone want to do that? Well, here's the carrot. Amongst this stuff is a fully-functioning recording studio and a bunch of instruments: Korg MonoPoly and Jen X1000 synths, an ADAT machine, a mid-50s vintage Gretsch guitar, and all sorts of smaller instruments and electronic gadgets, including a theremin that cost me £600! This is the ideal opportunity for a budding musician to get kitted out at one go, and have a free studio for a year or so. (Some of this kit, including the ADAT machine, I will donate in exchange for the space. You can keep it.)

Tech. note: some of the gear runs on 220 volts (European standard), so you will need an adaptor.

I will rent a van and move the stuff in this weekend, August 16th - 17th. Tell me here if you're interested and/or drop me a mail.

(By the way, you can listen to the CDs too, and read the books.)

Nick, believe it or not, I might have room in my place for all this. So if you really want to leave your stuff with someone you've had internet fights with, I'm sure it'd be fine.

hstencil, wear your trucker hat!

ps: n****a says to say "thanks for a good time with you guys last night".

That guitar is GORGEOUS, hstencil. I can't imagine how my friend the idiot has managed to stay away from it for so long despite the whole laptop and synth thing, that's how amazing it looks.

power's back on in Brooklyn, too. Apparently, my roommate has some connection to your apartment in Berlin...

hstencil check your mail and call me this morning (Saturday) please!

Nick Currie (Momus !), Saturday, 16 August 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it's not working out with hstencil (thanks for trying, Stence!), so this offer remains open while I follow other leads.

A kind graphic designer has offered me space in his studio, so all is well. Thanks for the brainstorming, everyone!

Can we just set this up as the New York City Nick Currie Non-Memorial Arts Library (Hstencil, proprietor)? I wanna come over and play with the gadgets.

(It didn't show me those last few posts before I made my joke. I was all ready to give Nick my apartment for storage -- I could sleep in the park and just drop in now and then to play guitar.)
