Sort of, in effect: America MUST be right, because Cameron Diaz is telling me so. Would you support the telethons? Or would you do it moreorless discretely?

Jay Simon, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

america is right because celine dion says so...did anyone else think of wag the dog when willie nelson came on? Would I support the telethons? If i were rich yeah...i'd love to talk to jack n. ask him waht he does for lara flynn...some things are important.

telethons = gathering money for victims and families and rebuilding? element of pro-war propaganda = what, exactly? (I didn't watch it, as it looked INCREDIBLY AWFUL = self-evident ANTI-american propaganda)

mark s, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not to offend, Jay, but do you assume that everyone who is not of your own immediate persuasion is either an agent or a dupe?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, the telethon was awful (are those things ever entertaining?). But I'd still like to know how fuckwad believes that raising money for the families of the dead, most of which are now COMPLETELY SKINT AFTER A BRUTAL ACT OF TERRORISM TOOK AWAY THEIR SOURCE OF INCOME NOT TO MENTION THE EMOTIONAL TOLL THIS TAKES, equals "American propeganda". Did you, and by you I mean Mr. Simon, actually watch any of it? I did for about 20 minutes cos it was on every channel, then we got depressed and went drinking, but those 20 minutes actually included the bit with Cameron Diaz, who spoke about how horrible it is for the widows and children, nothing about America. She was preceded by George Clooney discussing how brave it was for firefighters and emergency workers to run into the burning buildings and that they deserve more pay and support. She was followed by Jim Carrey, who actually spoke of an acquaintance of mine (a friend of my boss's, a Cantor Fitzgerald employee who tried to help people out of the building, as he did in the previous bombing - this time he wasn't as lucky as last).

I didn't personally call the telethon cos I'm just about spent trying to help people right now. I am emotionally dead and exhausted and worn to the bone. Eventually it'll get better and I'll be able to face this again, probably in a week or so, but right now I'm dead. Though I really did want to talk to Benecio Del Toro.

See disclaimer at Chomsky thread.

Jay Simon, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

U2 rocked. Just saw a clip of Bruce and he did too. F off, your litle Rage Against the Machine counter-culture revolution is just as bogus as a Pat Robertson prayer group.

hans, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Trivial question: was that Eddie Vedder with Neil Young? I couldn't tell.

jel, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It was Vedder. At that point, I promised a friend that if Axl ROse came out and sang "civil war" I would run through a window. I know it's not a civil war but still that sort of thing would have really gotten me going.

hans, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isn't Celine Dion Canadian?

Prude, Monday, 24 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

shit, imagine axl and celine, together, on the one song...tehn i would have given any money i had

Geoff, Tuesday, 25 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

six months pass...
I'd like to just point out that Rage Against The Machine has supported Canada in it's protests against the Free Trade Agreement, which the American Government is not honoring though they put it together themselves... They are very admirable, and seem to have continued to support political protests...etc... even after they've acheived fame. And as for the telethons, about 90% of the money donated, at least from Canada (although they were SAID to be going to the families) went to the "war effort" in Afghanistan (Hahaha, war effort, hahaha.) Of course, I'd also like to thank the American's "well trained army" for killing more Canadians than have died in battle since the Korean war.

Rage Against The Machine has supported Canada

Supported *Canada* or supported Canadians? I'm a touch suspicious of those characters supporting any national government.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 21 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They supported Canadians, rather. Stupid Brian Mulroony the fuck nut signed it, even though the senate (for the first time) opposed it. He found a way around it.. anyway, they supported the Quebec protests against Free Trade.. My point of bringing that up was that what's his name was saying it was bad to be a fan of Rage.

Brett, Sunday, 21 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

By the way, how did you guys find this page? I found it on Yahoo by searching for American Propeganda when I was in school, looking for some stuff to write about O.o

Brett, Sunday, 21 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

how did we find it? we all live here...

michael, Sunday, 21 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Live here? I'm confused. I meant how did you find the website, if you're confused about what I meant. O.o LOL! That's hilarious! Sorry.

Brett, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, trust us, we *do* live here. ;-) To answer your question more calmly -- there's a great zine called Freaky Trigger run by a fine fellow, Tom Ewing. He started a board called I Love Music, which this is a spinoff from. A lot of people just find it randomly, which is part of the fun!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's an interesting definition of fun, ned.

ethan, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fun is where you find it. :-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we're off topic. No one else has any views on this crud?

Brett, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we're off topic.

That, too, is common. Nay, expected.
