It's a tough one, boys and girls. But I'm sure if we all put our heads together, we can solve this problem once and for all.

soul wins

stevem (blueski), Friday, 15 August 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you being obscure on purpose, or am I just not bright enough to get it? What are you talking about, Ludwig?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 15 August 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

he's an egg on legs with a violin - what can you expect?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 15 August 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

my mind has the problem of too much champagne, my body has the problem of not enough food! is that what you mean?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 15 August 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body? I don't know...

Morrissey (Dan Perry), Friday, 15 August 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Dualism - it's a philosophical pseudoproblem.

gobemouche, Friday, 15 August 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the thread where I get called a pseud.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe there's only one, N.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a given on all the others

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

So pseud me.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

the body is what is touched - the mind is the touch factory.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike, if I said you had a beautiful mind would you hold it against me?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The mind and body aren't independent of each other, it's not like they're two opposing things, more like two faces of the same coin, y'know?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah yeah, except without the coin, etc. ad inf.

nestmanso (nestmanso), Friday, 15 August 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ludwig, didn't you yourself have a crack at solving this in your "Philosophical Investigations?" I can't quite remember how it went, but Descartes is wrong, and the Private Language Argument explains why.
