the Pinefox is coming to Dublin next week. we must go out for a pint at some stage. yes indeed.

isn't it amazing, incidentally, that there is no category called FAP?

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 15 August 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

where'll we go? the pav would be great in this weather if it's open.

angela (angela), Friday, 15 August 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

blimey, the Pinefox is popular, isn't he?

I was thinking of maybe going to some auld Dublin haunt like the Palace on Fleet Street or Mulligans. Or we could just be boring and go to the Long Hall.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 18 August 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i vote for mulligan's.

angela (angela), Monday, 18 August 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope he doesnt smoke!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 August 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

He smoulders.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 18 August 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

when is he here? my trepidation in posting was only cos I'm unsure if I'd be welcome really.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i may drop along as well. what day are we talking about?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan is always welcome.

I'm thinking of thursday this week for the FAP. The Pinefox is in town from wednesday to wednesday. I'm not sure exactly what his plans are for the whole of the time. Er, I am not the spokesperson of the Pinefox.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a day off on thursday, so i'll almost definitely be along.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in London from Thursday to Tuesday so may not be able to make it along, unless there's something next Tuesday. Whatever suits the majority obv.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

we could have two FAPs, of course.

i'll be a bit late on thursday, but that shouldn't stop anyone.

i think the Long Hall is a good choice.

rener (rener), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

thursday suits me (as does the following tuesday).

angela (angela), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Dublin boozers are in it for the long hall.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

don't I know.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Mooro is OTM. Mulligans is a rat-infested cess pit and I refuse to go there. I have never EVER had a nice night in that pub and at my age I'm not about to start. I vote The Long Hall or The Lord Edward.

Might we have another FALPC in his honour? I'll make sure he brings sturdy shoes.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to post Lara's ideas then I saw that she already had.

Rener is right, we should have two FAPs.

Yes, we should do the Literary Pub Crawl together too, unless youze have done it recently.

Also there is much WORLD CULTURE down the coast.

an pinefox, Monday, 18 August 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I could go to Dublin too but I had a long chat to Mr Quicken today & have realised that if someone once exhorted me to go for broke then I have taken them too literally.

Wishing you all a lovely literary libation.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Mooro, we would certainly roll out the green carpet for you!

I suggest FAPs every night from Wednesday until the following Wednesday. We could have a FAD (dance - exotic WORLD CULTURE style) at the weekend if anyone's feeling adventurous.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure if I'd like to do the literary pub crawl again so soon. but we could send the Pinefox on it and meet him in Davy Byrne's after, with his new saucy LPC friends. I'm not sure if this is a good idea.

how about a hello-pinefox FAP on thursday and then a goodbye-Pinefox FAP on tuesday? and being a human being, the Pinefox can make arrangements to meet people in the intervening time himself.

to humour Lara, no FAP in Mulligans. so, the Lord Edward on thursday at 8.00pm?

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 18 August 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

There is nothing humourous about Mulligans on a Thursday.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 August 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the idea that we are temporarily trading a Pinefox for a Ronan. Who decided that they were equivalent, and on what criteria, so that there was no transfer fee required?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, Ronan is just going to dress up as the Pinefox, and vice versa.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, Ronan is just going to dress up as the Pinefox, and vice versa.

-- DV

agggg! Just wrong on so many counts.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe someone could pretend to be you too! and you could pretend to be someone else! ideally someone you have never met, for total comedy value.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

by the way, if you like or are interested in gamelan music, some of us (including the Pinefox as I have just bought his ticket) are going to a performance of Malaysian gamelan (with added dancers) out in Dun Laoighaire. See this: http://www.dlrcoco.ie/festivalofworldcultures/nusantara.htm

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah - if you are coming to the FAP on thursday night, we are obviously talking about UPSTAIRS in the Lord Edward. in the Lounge, where nice people go.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i'm going to that gamelan thing with my dad...

robin (robin), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

we can make fun of you, then. eh.... see you there.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I am sorry I shall be missing the moment when The Pinefox feels the voibe. Someone have a camera ready.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

He's been here a matter of hours and he's already wearing a hoody, O'Neill tracksuit bottoms and saying 'alroight' at the end of every sentence.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hey... the Pinefox is off the internet... what completely untrue things about ILX can we tell him at the FAP?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The Terrace is a labyrinthical chimera.

the ronanfox (Cozen), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

FAP keywords: Tim Hopkins, ponies, Michael Jackson, hair, forthright opinions, the constant danger of table tipping etc.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 22 August 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope you are looking after our The Pinefox properly and not putting him through the kind of physical and emotional punishment I received last time I was in Dublin.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 22 August 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

don't worry, he's in good hands

*hur hur huurrrrr*

FAP keywords: all of the above PLUS free Baileys. and PIRATES, arrrr.

rener (rener), Friday, 22 August 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Lara? Nice hair.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 22 August 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

you're one to talk. and it actually is nice hair.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Lara and the Pinefox are slavedrivers! they want me to post up loads of things here that they were talking about and getting up to. well sod them. I'm not their minion.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

What's a minion? I'm very confused by big words.

Rabbit, Friday, 22 August 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

That's because you're not as clever as I am. I know all about what a minion is -- I just don't feel like explaining it right now.

Mr Cow, Friday, 22 August 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

christ, I don't think I can take another FAP like that.

Neddy the Donkey, Friday, 22 August 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Lara and the Pinefox are slavedrivers! they want me to post up loads of things here that they were talking about and getting up to.

he means soy, donkey soy

Tim (Tim), Friday, 22 August 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

we share a name, but I doubt we share proclivities.

Neddy the Donkey, Friday, 22 August 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh mama, you make it sound so good.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 August 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Eeeew.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 22 August 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Such abuse.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 August 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

by the way, where was Kilian at the FAP on thursday? and we didn't see Robin at the Gamelan thing on friday. and whose idea was it to go to Lapellos for a quiet pint on saturday?

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 24 August 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i was exhausted after playing football. sorry folks, i shall try to make it to the next one...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 24 August 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I am sorry I shall be missing the moment when The Pinefox feels the voibe. Someone have a camera ready.

he copped a quick feel of the voibe, but got his face slapped before we could take a picture. sorry.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 25 August 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I have sent the Pinefox off to Belfast this morning in a Celtic jersey and some Rangers shorts. I wonder if he’ll have an adventure?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 25 August 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

If I suggested a Farewell Pinefox FAP on Tuesday, what would the reaction be?

He really is a thoroughly chap, even if he does have George Michael knees.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you saying he's thoroughly chapped?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 25 August 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

No, that he has such good legs he should have been in Wham!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 25 August 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinefox thinks Belfast is sexier than Dublin SHOCKAH!!

rener (rener), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

blurrrrgh, I'm broken.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, I don't know my own strength.

Neddy the Donkey, Wednesday, 27 August 2003 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, thanks a lot for breaking all our chairs Neddy. God, you invite your mates around for a nice curried Irish stew and this is the thanks you get.

The Pinefox was too scared to come back to the flat last night ... I've heard he slept inside some geezer's tuba, but this is as yet unconfirmed.

rener (rener), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

is that what they call it these days?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything hurts and sausage rolls only make things slightly better. My aim is not to have any more fun for at least a week.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Things can't have been that riotous, seeing as they were texting me to ask what the best Belle & Sebastian song was.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh for heaven's sake, of course it wasn't riotous. That wouldn't be in keeping with the delicate surroundings and Neddy would have dirtied the carpet if we'd been too loud.

A chair was broken and there was curry in the stew. We were looking for the name of a song to tattoo onto The Pinefox's navel to compliment the Waxy's Dargle one he's had done on his hip.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

aw, I just noticed that I have a text message asking what the best belle & sebastian song EVER is.

A: 'stay loose'.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 31 August 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It was funny to see that the question "What exactly is rude health" cause Tim Hopkins' name to leap to several people's lips simultaneously.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 1 September 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, HEIN?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 1 September 2003 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

What I said.

Q: What exatly is "rude health"?

A: Tim Hopkins! Except he's a bit poorly these days.

Apparently.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 1 September 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

:(

Tim (Tim), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Tim poorly? I demand he return to Dublin for chicken broth.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
How is the Point?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 19 November 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Large, and the most miserable place in the world if it's half empty. It can fill with good cheer, but needs more filling than some other places the same size. Better than the RDS, though.

Is the gig seated?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems there is both standing and seated. . . .

Mary (Mary), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Seated is stadium stlye at the back/the sides/balconies above those two. If this is the obvious suspect, you might see Lara there, which you'd both enjoy.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

what gig is this?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Morrissey hits London, I would suspect.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 19 November 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Or hits Dublin, even.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 19 November 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I hit London, today.

the finefox, Friday, 19 November 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks. I can't decide what to do. There is Brighton Centre, Earl's Court, and the Point. From what I hear, none of these theaters are very lovely. But I've never been to Dublin, so it would be fun to go just for that reason, I think, and it's the last show of the tour, though Moz has a tendency of throwing these last shows, I am getting the feeling. What's Dublin like around Christmas time? I'd love to meet Lara, if she's out there.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 19 November 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello - Andrew rang me when I was in Athens last week to persuade me to post to thus thread. I'll be there on the 20th, singing along and waving my arms erratically. It would be great to meet you Mary and Christmas is the best time in Dublin unless you want to shop or get a seat in a pub! The pretty Christmas lights make everything a lot more perky.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Lara: I will be singing along and waving arms erratically as well. Will you be waiting in line in the daytime? Is this general admission? As you can see, I haven't done much research beyond, 'Oh, Morrissey's last gig is in Dublin. I've never been to Dublin. That might be fun.' I may e-mail you if do decide to come, if that's okay. Sadly, I would only be there for one day (I'll be in London before that for a few days at least though) as the next day I will have to fly home to a family that is under the delusional idea that they would like to spend as much of the Christmas holiday with me as possible. But at least I won't have too much time to attempt those two blacklisted activities: shopping and pub-sitting.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

It's happening again.

First week of July.

To my surprise, I am staying here:
http://www.dublincitihotel.com/

It claims to have an award-winning 4-floor bar.

Which naturally prompts the question -

Fancy a Pint?

the pinefox, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

wow. who from Dublin is left on ILX?

The New Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

too uncouth and uncultured to dare, to be honest.

Also, unhelpfully, not anywhere near dublin.

I think there are still a few dubs around though.
