i am considering of buying to let, along with a relative. have you ever done, or do you do this? what are your experiences? i am thinking leeds or newcastle, although possibly se london, if combined salaries (£42k) will allow. i am quite dubious about it, but if its totally managed by an agent (10%?) then, hassle should be taken out of it? where do you think, considering the difficult property market, would be a good place to go for (i think leeds may have peaked, but then i also think it could carry on rising. newcastle feels like it could improve still)

opinion?

Between Newcastle, Leeds and SE London, my advice would be to look first at their respective goalies. If the goalies are nearly at par, compare strikers and go with whoever's the best. Discount coaching at least 15% below face.

In choosing a property manager, examine the waistcoat carefully. No waistcoat disqualifies a prospect in my opinion, as do linen, stripes or gold watchchains. A simple worsted in a subdued check is the ticket, especially if it has crumbs embedded in the weave. Contrary to received wisdom, a combover does not affect performance.

do it, especially since for many this is the only way to get into property ownership.

If I had the money to do it I would, it makes perfect sense. Do it. But make sure you know a handyman type guy who can fix the ineivitable problems for cheap (if a roof or structure needs sorting mail me but I don't touch electrics or plumbing)......is a long winded way of saying it's a lot of problems potentially but I think it's worth it in the long run. Make sure the properties sound though or else world of pain ensues boiler will pack in washing machine will flood floor etc etc.
