had the most ridiculous IT issue today, mostly because I routinely do dumb things due to impatience that cause me long-term pain re: technology. today was no different...lolz
I was trying to set up Outlook and MS Teams again on my phone temporarily today. I've previously had it on there, but usually not for long as it's too invasive.
so I tried to set it up, but it said I had too many devices registered. usually, you just click on a link and can remove the excess registrations in the program itself, but apparently they migrated to Azure directory so it took me there. This counted every time I'd installed the program as a separate registration, even though all of them showed Inactive. I disabled them, still said I had too many.
I wound up disabling every registration and it still told me I had too many (wtf?). to my horror, I realized one of the connections I disabled was my work laptop - previously, only mobile devices were listed when you went to manage registrations, so I wasn't expecting to see laptops out there and clicked too fast.
sure enough, it messed up with my connection to Microsoft programs, but I could still get on VPN, so I web chatted IT, and I told him what I did. He dismissed it ("you probably just signed out!"), and then remoted into my computer. he saw that there were software updates and that computer must be restarted by 5/28. for no good reason, he clicked to restart the computer and run the new installations....breaking our remote connection. Then, when I tried to log back on, I was fully locked out (due to my stupidity earlier).
so I call IT this time, repeat what happened. this person tries to reset my password for the system, does nothing to re-enable my device, even though I keep mentioning this is the issue. she resets it three times and of course none of the times does it work because...my device is still disabled. So she says she'll escalate the ticket.
I've been unable to work for hours now as a result, then it dawns on me that they replaced my laptop a few months ago, and gave me a prepaid UPS box to send it back in, and I forgot to do so. That laptop device had an internal password, and wasn't on the Azure directory, so I tried as a hail mary, and boom...I got in...with 20 minutes left in the day. this time I go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list and sure enough, it shows plain as day my device is disabled, and says admin needs to re-enable it for me.
so IT pings me again asking if it's ok to call, and I say yes. this person attempts to do the exact same thing thta the previous person did, just resetting my password, which didn't work. after I tried it, I mentioned politely that we'd already done this 3 times previously on prior call. and then I msged him the screenshot of the Device List, with the appropriate parts highlighted.
He reads it, comes back and says "no, your device isn't disabled", and tries the password reset again, which doesn't work. then 10 minutes later, gives up, and promises to call back in the morning. he stated they may even need to replace the device (WHEN ALL IT NEEDS IS TO BE RE-ENABLED)
Obviously, everybody knows we moved to Azure, because the way they tell me to log in is the new way. My guess is nobody's done something stupid like I did before, so nobody knows how to re-enable. However, my device had to be enabled before it was shipped to me, so I'm guessing someone knows.
anybody know anything about Azure? does it suck?
