is about to be shown on Sky One

let's talk about it (and the show in general) here

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 17 August 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the only episode of "Futurama" I ever watched was the fist one....and that seems like it debuted about two months ago. It's over already?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The fist one? wow, I must have missed this. . .

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

HYPNOTOAD OWNS YOU ALL

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 17 August 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Your music is bad and you should feel bad"

possibly Zoidberg's funniest line ever

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 17 August 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I was VERY surprised at how good it was. Leela-Fry episodes usually are unbearably sentimental and saccharine. The end was quite a send-off.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 17 August 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm gonna build my own space station, with blackjack, and hookers. Ah, forget the blackjack. And the space station"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 17 August 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

It was "lunar lander", but I only gripe because that is possibly my favorite Futurama episode ever (a rare example of one of a TV show's strongest moments being in the first few episodes without the series then instantly tailspinning into mediocrity).

Other great moments in that episode:
-Archduke Chocula
-Monsanto's Goophy Gopher Revue
-Whalers on the Moon (and the harpoon-wielding thereof)
-The "A Trip to the Moon" visual gag tribute (with Bender sticking a beer bottle in the eye of a Disneyland-esque costumed moon-head character)
-the Apollo lander returned to the moon by the "Historical Sticklers' Society"
-The Crushinator!

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 17 August 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

"you stay away from my three robot daughters!"

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 August 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

-Whalers on the Moon (and the harpoon-wielding thereof)

ohhh yeahhh. classic to be sure

sweet creeping zombie jesus!!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 17 August 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

for me the series was sort of patchy - half the time it seemed too gimmicky and contrived - other times those gimmicks and subsequent jokes were the best thing ever.

but where were Captain Brannigan and Kif in this final episode? or the frog-like aliens? they've been in more episodes than Robot Devil surely. it was a strange way to end thing just having them focus on Fry and Leela so much, and everything was a bit TOO unresolved. i was hoping they'd go out on a limb more and do something more epic or absolute, but never mind.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 17 August 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, from what I have heard Fox unexpectedly pulled the plug so there was no real chance for them to wrap everything up.

There's also talk of some new episodes on the Cartoon Network due to the great ratings the reruns have been getting there -- I hope this is one rumor that pans out.

Larcole (Nicole), Sunday, 17 August 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, from what I have heard Fox unexpectedly pulled the plug so there was no real chance for them to wrap everything up

nah they would've had plenty of notice - it was announced about a year ago at least, and the ending did have a major vibe to it as in 'this is the end, forever'

would be good if they did a few more episodes tho...and why not a movie?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 17 August 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Still waiting on seeing the last ep (soon, soon)... meantime, I watched "the Sting" on the weekend which was one of the last ones, and a really good episode. I heard that it had originally been planned as the last but then they got a reprieve and kept going, anyone heard this? God knows if it's true...

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 18 August 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Meh, that show's been going downhill since season three.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 18 August 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternatively: All hail to the hypnotoad!

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 18 August 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

best episode i saw recently was the one where Leela is in a coma and is dreaming, thinking that Fry is dead. that was really poignant and had some great surreal ideas executed very well. also this line from Fry

"Why am I all warm and sticky? Did I miss something fun?"

stevem (blueski), Monday, 18 August 2003 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Big fan of the episode where MOM tries to destroy the world by sending all the robots on a violent rampage. The Professor has to stop her by getting the remote control she keeps in her bra.

Prof: "If I must get to second base to save the world, so be it!"

...later...

Leela: "It shouldn't take this long to get to second base!"

...still later...

Prof: "Oh yes."

ModJ, Monday, 18 August 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ewww, that one had to much oldsex for me. It made me cringe.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 18 August 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

...and thus brilliant.

Fry: "There's nothing in here but two elephant skin rugs and... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEewwwwwwwwwwwwww..."

ModJ, Monday, 18 August 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

But the show overall is ace, when it was new on fox I wasn't too interested, but from all the reruns on adult swim I really got to appriciate it.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 18 August 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Was the Fry-creates-holo-opera episode the final episode then? That was on last week, here, thought maybe I missed the final one today through stupidity.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 18 August 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Futurama for the simple physics jokes (bender whips slave in space and moves gently backwards) amongst many other reasons, most of which are Morbo. Obviously the hypnotoad owns us all. Basically it's just great and that is all my critical faculties can manage on the matter. "It's spirit! the pony I always wanted but my parents said I already had too many ponies!" and of course "this circle is about free expression, not your fascist 'moves'"...oh, it's just great...look at my crazy passport....

Matt (Matt), Monday, 18 August 2003 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem: yeah that Leela in coma ep was "the Sting", and I thought it very poignant and sweet (as well as hilarious) also. I actually said "awwww!" at the end of it, blimx0r.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 18 August 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Good news everyone! That was the final episode of Futurama ever! < /farnsworth>

Leee (Leee), Monday, 18 August 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Fave quote from this last series I spent all this weekend watching:

Farnsworth's son: "Anyway everyone knows beer makes you stupid"

Fry: "No I'm... doesn't!"

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 18 August 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Er that should be Hermes son, dammit. Bad memory.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 18 August 2003 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm steering with my ass!!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 18 August 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Everybody loves Hypno-Toad! *brawwwwwwwwwwrrrrrrrrrmmmmmrrrwwwwrrrrrrrr*

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

...had better star Zoidberg as a central character

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 18 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything I know about New York I learnt from Futurama.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 August 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Everything I know about Didsbury I learnt from cereal packets.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 18 August 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

No, hang on, that's not true. I know nothing about Didsbury.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 18 August 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I do like cereal though.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 18 August 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt (Matt), Monday, 18 August 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

As it turned out the X-ray viewer actually worked and I passed many a happy hour watching passing vans drooling over the groceries therein. Until the day a hearse drove past, and I grew less fond of my X-ray viewer.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 18 August 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still kind of ticked off I forgot/missed the last episode, but I guess it will be rerun at some point.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

So what exactly happened in the end, then?

Simon H., Tuesday, 19 August 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
bendin makes me feel good

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 23 July 2006 04:19 (nineteen years ago)

Haha! Thats excellent :D

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 July 2006 04:21 (nineteen years ago)

And I guess this is a good spot to mention Futurama is actually coming back on? 4 movie length eps, released to DVD (I think) and cut up and put on Comedy Central or something, soon. Woo!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 July 2006 04:40 (nineteen years ago)

thirteen years pass...

i never dipped into this and now seems like a good time

it is a good time, right?

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 9 May 2020 08:44 (five years ago)

there’s never been a better time

Millennials are using this app to speak in just 3 weeks. (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 9 May 2020 08:46 (five years ago)

stick with the first four series and you'll be fine

Flaneuring Bevan (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 9 May 2020 09:07 (five years ago)

the kids don't like the simpsons. they say 'it's too old - it's full of jokes you laugh at but i don't get' which is sadly true. i feel like this is less like that from my vague 20-year-old recollection of it

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 9 May 2020 09:13 (five years ago)

pretty sure there's a lot of jokes that the kids won't get but a change is as good as etc

Flaneuring Bevan (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 9 May 2020 09:15 (five years ago)

A lot more jokes based around silly-looking aliens & robots, definitely more appealing to kids than the simpsons imo
