If anyone disagrees, I'll meet you in a pub car-park and fight you with my fists

(obv i have googled and read about a bit, but personal experience is always good)
I have not, alas, but i just thought I'd add to this thread by saying that if you happen to be in Madrid, don't miss out on La Caixa Forum.

San Sebastian is amazing.. a university town on the beach. The food is amazing, the highest concentration of gourmet anywhere in the world. Great surfing, great hiking, I've always enjoyed my stay in the Basque Country.

so are there good bars and clubs n san sebastian then? i heard about the crazy michelin star levels there but reckon i'll just stick to tapas.
― Will.Have.Known (Local Garda), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 15:50 (fourteen years ago)
Get in with the locals by referring to the town as Donostia. And don't say tapas, say pinxtos.
I don't know anything about clubs there, but it is full of appealing bars where you can stuff you face with pinxtos.

If you are in Bilbao, check out the Guggenheim there. It has a giant puppy made of flowers, or did when I was there. I was only in Bilbao for an afternoon, but I reckon it would repay further exploration.

I thought pintxos were the tapas with a skewer
― Periblepsis occasioned by homoeoteleuton (Michael White), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 16:51 (fourteen years ago)
OK, pintxos. Nope, in the Basque Country they are all kinds of little treats to be had in bars.
― The New Dirty Vicar, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 16:52 (fourteen years ago)
The name Pintxos might have roots in Castillian for toothpick but nah, it means straight-up deluxe bar food of all types.

I'm going to Spain in July and will probably venture up to San Sebastian for a few days. Recommended lodging?
