techie question re mouse scroller button?

My scrolling button on my house suddenly won't work, I'm unsure why, is it possible to deactivate it? And if so how do I reactivate it?

If you have windows depending on what version you have there may be an option for turning the scroll wheel on or off in the mouse control panel. Also, if you have any sort of mouse that uses its own software (lots of optical mouses, for instance), you may have accidentally done something to that.
