I kinda doubt people would laugh and point, JMC. They do sell tea, you know.

Some green teas are very high in caffeine, aren't they?

Oh yeah, I know. No, it's not about how I look, it's about how I feel. There's just something about drinking coffee that makes me feel good -- habitual associations, perhaps. Plus, I like the taste better.

Currently used solvents for decaffeinating coffee include, H2O (water), CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), Meth. Chloride, Ethyl Acetate. Note: A relatively new method called Swiss Water Decaffeinated uses "flavor-charged" water in the decaffeinating process.
I'm assuming that the amounts of methyl chloride in decaffeinated coffee are low enough to meet the FDA's standard of "no recognized amount of harm." But then I don't get the point of decaf, and if you or your grandmother don't want to take that risk, rock on.

drinking a lot of it can tweak me somewhat, but it's not nearly the same feeling as being over-caffeinated.
the flavor takes some getting used to i guess. i would recommend starting in with one of the flavored varieties. in fact all i have been drinking lately is taragui con hierbas serranas. the most prevalent flavor over the mate is mint. add a bit of sugar too.
i can't recommend the miel (honey) or pomelo (grapefuit). some particularly strong ones i've tried which might be good to avoid at first are rosamonte (& seleccion especial) and canarias. my fave plain one thus far is the taragui in the blue bag. (despalado - less tendency to clog the bombilla than the grinds which include the stems. the stem i don't think is so much the problem as the finer dust which seems to be in those grinds)
also the social aspect of drinking it in a group is cool (sharing the mate/bombilla, host/guest ritual) , although i am usually by myself so it doesn't apply most of the time

I'm a little distressed about being back on coffee after drinking exclusively tea for about 4 years. But man the rush is great.

Fine.
Some people can't/don't want to drink caffeine but actually enjoy the taste of coffee. People who have had or are at high risk of cancer (CANCER you bastards!) aren't supposed to drink caffeine. And people, like me, who get sick of being dependent upon the stuff also enjoy decaf. So, every once in a while when I'm out to eat or had a good meal I enjoy a nice cup of decaf. And nothing will stop me or my brethren.
Mormon coffee is actually brown-colored water, not decaf, by the way.
The defense rests.

Also, whatever espresso coffee my parents use is decaf, cos my dad has chronic insomnia, but tastes entirely like the proper shit. Lavazza, probably.

Instant coffee? You get more iron drinking water from rusty pipes. And yerba? I like this quote: "the flavor takes some getting used to i guess. i would recommend starting in with one of the flavored varieties." Well put, sir. You said it perfectly well. It's nasty swill.
Come on, people! Where are the sensualists here? The ones who would walk a mile for a cup of buttery, chocolately Oaxacan?
