I nominated myself for an award a few months ago. The shortlist is being announced today.

I'm really nervous that I'm not going to be on it. Even though it doesn't really mean anything, but I know that I'm very very good at what I do, esp. in this part of the world, and I really fucking deserve some goddamn recognition, even though I'm diametrically opposed to what the awarding organization represents.

Er, at the risk of sending it crapwards... I like winning awards. It's always nice to get a little "good boy" pat on the head, even if it's sometimes from people you don't much like or respect. It can be weird to win one year for something that you think isn't as good as something that didn't even get nominated the year before, but whatever. (I used to be all proud that Christopher Hitchens was on a judging panel that gave me an award, and he even sent me a nice note about it, but then he went bonkers so I don't brag about it anymore. Except that I just did, obviously...See, awards are insidious...)

So, and I'm sure this was very bad protocol, but I honestly think I deserved to be on the shortlist and dammit I want answers (I am a fucking journalist, after all), so I sent the awarding-org the following:

I noticed that I am not on the, ahem, shortlist for media person of the year and would like to know why.
I'm not meaning to harangue or harass, but would honestly like to know what criteria I failed to meet in comparison with those who did make the cut.
