two years

Next Monday it will have been two years since L died.

The baggage (emotional and otherwise) I have had to carry around with me is now all being shed. The book will take about 12 months to come out/be published but it is happening (the Morley magic has worked wonders!). L's friends & colleagues at Oxford Brookes library are extremely excited about it...they will be ordering a copy for the library in L's memory when it comes out.

Significant Other-type issues I have put on the backburner. Getting the book done is my priority at the moment. If it happens, it will happen...someone will come along when I least expect it. And it's a truism that you're better at attracting people when you're not looking than when you are.

Day job is same old same old but is thankfully becoming increasingly irrelevant.

I hope I've not done too badly. First year was chaos, but two years on the concept of a "new life" is slowly starting to make sense.

Up to Glasgow tomorrow to laze about for a week or so; looking forward to it.

In summary - cautiously optimistic, but glad that life is now progressing as I planned.

To paraphrase Yoko's message to John on the sleeve of "Walking On Thin Ice" - I hope you like CoM, Laura. I did my best.

smee (smee), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay Marcello, I am so happy for you that things are getting towards being back on track & although your life will never be quite the same, I hope you can still find all the happiness you deserve.
*big hugs*

Best of luck with all future projects Marcello! Thinking of you.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Marcello

Just a quick note to say hi - and good luck. I'm a big fan of Church of Me, I have loved your recent posts, most specifically the ones on Alvin Lucier ( Its amazing how these things can fall together isn't it? - I had just got into listening to "I am sitting in a room" when i came across your blog and it seemed doubly coincidental/ spooky that Morley had written at length about it too!). Those posts also got me into Gillian Welch - so thanks for that also.

Theres so much more I love about your writing - hopefully i can bang on at length about it at some point!

keep on.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed, best of luck with the book and the next two years (and the two after that and the two after that and so on!). It's been inspiring seeing things unfold.

x

I got an email last week from a friend completely unconnected to FT or ILX or anything linking to CoM, saying 'have you seen this Radiohead review? It's fucking great.'

Good to hear things are picking up, Marcello.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Keep on truckin'!

Y'know.

If you need someone to spend a day with in Glasgow, Marcello, that'd be nice.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Well done Marcello and good luck with the book.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

being positive is probably the most admirable trait in a person, looking to the future and see'ing yourself channeling your strengths into both your future and your book. May you keep up this strength marcello and here's hoping life now deals you what you truely deserve.

james (james), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I second Sinkah's words - I have huge respect for how you have started a new life, especially how successful you've been as a music writer so quickly. Good luck with it all continuing to progress.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very glad to hear you're doing well. The Church of Me has brought me so much happiness, and I eagerly await the book.

m. same stuff everyone else said & also it's good to see you posting here again, do it more ok

duane, Friday, 22 August 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You're one of the folks here who I was (and still am) a bit in awe of, Marcello. Maybe that's silly but it's true. What I admire is the force of your will; you can carry along entire mountains and forests in its wake. What you've been carrying may be heavier even than these. But these muscles are going to serve you well. Congratulations!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 22 August 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

shit i wish i'd said something more like what tracer said...see i'm not as flippant & disrespectful as i probly seem, just inarticulate & dumm. marcello i remember the 1st thing you writ that i read, that pisstake of jools holland, it was just killer laff out loud funny & i was like WHO IS THIS GUY! HE'S A GODDAMN GENIUS!!
