A tiny peek at Asia.

Um, who wanna look at my corny travel pictures? I finally got around to uploading some of the not-as-bad ones. I didn't take as many photos as i would have liked because I'm a moron... Anyhow, I used a Canon Digital ELPH 2mp because it's small - and didn't come with any of the fancy SLR features which I don't know how to use anyway.

Tokyo
Hong Kong
China 1
China 2
Laos
Vietnam
Cambodia
Australia

um, enjoy!

I know if I start now I'll never get anything done at work and I actually have to today, so later tonight. :-)

Re: "passed out in shinjuku park"

Holy crap! Even the grass in Japan looks orderly and well-designed!

Phil, I never knew you had an inner Homeboy! The Gap, even in Asia? Say it ain't so. So sad the bland tastelessness continues to spread....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 21 August 2003 07:04 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow Phil those are wonderful!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel awesome because I've been to almost every place in your Hong Kong gallery (except your dorm room obviously).

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax, well, i was meant to try to get from Bangkok to Brussels the entire way overland through Central Asia and the Middle East, but after 3 months in Australia, 2 months in SE Asia, and 4 months in China, the whole SARS paranoia hit China and all the land borders with Central Asia got closed, and flights cancelled. Sucked, because I had just spent $300 on visas for Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. So I got as far as Kashgar, near the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, then had to turn back to Shanghai since my Chinese visa was running out and the border wasn't going to be reopened in the foreseeable future. I tried sneaking across, but I got caught, which is a whole other story. Anyways, when I got to Shanghai, there was no way for me to get to Central Asia so I just came home.... I'm saving up to try again next year, except starting in the West.

Nick, did you like HK?

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I did like it. I went there two or three times. My dad works for the US Dept of State and so the rest of my family was living there while I was in college. I went there over vacation. I thought it was pretty nifty. I'd never been anywhere in East Asia before (just India) so it was different for me.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

great pix, phil-2!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry. That post makes me sound like I'm six years old. What did you think of Hong Kong?

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't really that impressed. I had just flown from Tokyo, so it was a huge letdown. Though the food was really really really yummy. Also, the expats were mostly assholes who thought HK was still part of the British Empire. And I left my wallet in a cab and spent the afternoon broke and panicking until I found a friend on AIM who wired me $100. Oh but the food! And the fake LV wallets at the markets were pretty good too. And the fake Bathing Ape...

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the food was pretty hottt. There was this vegetarian restaurant near where I was working one summer that had this thing that was tofu skins in ginger or something like that and I still fantasize about it.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice photos, phil-two. I liked the panda shots the best.

Sarah MCLUsky (coco), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd really like a bigger 'peek at Asia'. Too bad I don't live in New York.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Thursday, 21 August 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Her name's Asia. This is one of those rare occasions that I get Dada.

Phil, hella sweet pics, way better than the ones I have. How'd you get the Terra Cotta solja pics to come out so well?

One sight that I regret not being quick enough to shoot was along a frighteningly busy road in Xi'an -- in the middle of the road, all by herself was a girl of probably 6 waiting to cross the road.
