The end result could be that what with my goatee and all I will look like evil alternate dimension Ned

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a beard right now, I may work at it.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed I think you and I need to switch haircuts for a day and see what happens

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds like a 14th-season Simpsons subplot (I almost put the word "bad" in there but I fear redundancy)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I will look like evil alternate dimension Ned

I'm not that already?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(Ned: You don't have a goatee = you are virtuous & true!)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I think this is a terrible idea.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

eds beard is actually, kind of like, not that bad at all really!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

does he look like bob marley or rick wakeman?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I, on the other hand, will be shaving my head after my book is finished (i.e. in a month). in the meantime my hair and beard grow and grow and grow.

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos, fuck that noise, you should try for the white man fro. I did this summer but sort of wound up with a wavy semi-spherical pompadour (as hinted at in above pic).

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm growing my hair out too.

hstencil, Friday, 22 August 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

fro? my hair isn't even curly

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh. Yeah, I sort of wound up in the same predicament.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 22 August 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

nate, if you grow yer hair out you will look like al jourgensen's younger brother. whether or not that's a good thing is yer call, of course.

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 22 August 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

your hair should be like zemkos

gareth (gareth), Friday, 22 August 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

speaking of which, I bet he won't be calling me a DJ Shadow lookalike when I have my stringy chin-length para-hipster locks

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 22 August 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Im growing in the winter hair.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 22 August 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.zerointegrity.co.uk/beard.jpg
the moustache bit is very dodgy

Ed (dali), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone's hair should be like Zemko's... he's the most immaculately coiffeured person on ILX.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just thinking about this the other day, I never see men with long hair anymore. At least you would be kind of unique, Nate.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am afraid of Ed's new look.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I get quite fearful of any look that mentions b****s, even in passing.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

He looks kind of louche in that picture, if you can have that much hair and still be louche.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure there were louche cavemen, so yes.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Louche lumberjacks, even.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 22 August 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

louche lips think sips

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
I'm not sure if this is gonna work. I got it cut like two or three or four times since I started this thread (including an all-out football hooligan buzz) and now that I finally have it at a decentish length I'm quickly realizing that thinning scalp + attempted bangs = Ralph Wiggum. Thinning at 27 = dud upon dud.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

Eeps. *sends good thoughts*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Ned...

Nate, it could be far worse.. (I remember high school students who were balding.) Accept it, and realize -- as someone else said here -- how much tail you'll get if you keep your head buzzed.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

i'm growing it out again. i feel guilty because a couple weeks back i ran into the girl who cuts my hair on bedford and said i'd call her and i totally haven't.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, the buzz doesn't look that good either. I look like a sociopath. Moreso. And roughly 8 years older.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

how can you "look" like a sociopath?

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

People can be very judgemental about the combination of closed-cropped early-stage male pattern baldness and a stern brow. And big fucking muttonchops. And the tendency to mutter to oneself.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

People are judgemental for arbitrary reasons, period. No one is really more judgemental about the things you just described.. Some are actually quite attracted to those features. trust me.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

http://63.105.17.122/cardimages/gesus/YoureBeautiful500x300.jpg

am I going to have serenade you, Nate?

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

a girl told me i was cute then decided she didn't want to date me.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

xpost - HAHA, nothing like a grammatical error to make things more romantic.

Seriously though, I've seen what you look like, Nate... not to be crude to my Seattle brothers, but many guys here have scored with far more hideous physical trait crimes.

You don't have to buzz your hair, anyway. If you hate that look, don't do it. Just do what makes you feel "all that" basically, then just keep on doing your thing. Hair-thinning anxiety is one of those things every guy looks back on and laughs off. Trust me.

hstencil.. well, story of my life too. To be fair, I've done the same as well (to other girls, not you, of course.)

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

and I obviously am not calling you hideous.. but it seems you are, though, and that's the problem.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

OK OK I am hott, fine, just please stop posting pictures that cause Joe Cocker songs to get stuck in my head

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

Just imagine Dennis Wilson singing it instead.

(Ok, I'm not helping, am i?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 May 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

genetically speaking: baldness is mother's fault!

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Thursday, 26 May 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was grandfather on yr mother's side, and in his case his hair got pretty thin. I think I have also inherited elements of his personality; his favorite reply to the question "How's it going?" was "Horseshit, but I'm used to it."

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 26 May 2005 06:13 (twenty years ago)

No haircut since early September 2004 for me! I'm going for the Andrea Pirlo look.

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Thursday, 26 May 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

they say it's your mom's dad, yeah. my grandpa was stark bald at 20, so i don't buy that theory.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

i procrastinated making a hair appointment because of the out-of-hand expense, and now i've got semi-long hair. it hasn't been like this for years.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

i bet it looks good!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

it looks like kirstie allsop's hair ('location, location, location').

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

i don't even know who that is.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

you would if you were in england and obsessed with real estate.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

oh wait maybe i did see this show on pbs once? i can't remember.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

The only logical argument about how hair is passed genetically must mean that it's passed down the female side, in other words, it's your grandMOTHER (and her mother, and her mother before her etc.) who's to blame. If it isn't just an X chromosome thing, then it could presumably come from either parent's line.

I was growing my hair out. And now it's out. All over the bathroom floor. Boom boom.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

ok so i googled that lady, and her hair isn't bad. maybe you should keep it that way, lauren.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

i'm doin this btw

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 12:41 (sixteen years ago)

Good man.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 August 2009 12:42 (sixteen years ago)

i'm always doing this, but it always gets sabotaged

#/.'#/'@ilikecats (g-kit), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 12:43 (sixteen years ago)

Ask anyone in the north of England to thin your hair out, and they will instinctively give you a crew cut. I lost several valuable inches this way.

It's kind of at the awkward ear-hiding length now. I have keep sorting the roots out or else I end up with nasty wisps of ginger that make me resemble a tortoiseshell cat.
