i actually emailed geeta and invited her to the casiotone for the painfully alone record release party because i felt bad that she thought sf hates so much fun... and she never emailed me back!

lesson learned: sf doesn't hate fun, haters hate fun.

The honeymoon was great. Although you wouldn't believe how similar some of the deepest Belizean jungle is to downtown Berkeley on a Sunday afternoon.

How's things for you, gygax!? Seen any good shows? Are you going to Mogwai or you one of the many who have stopped caring?

belize it or not, i had no idea mogwai was coming to town.

allow me to tell you a story: someone that I used to go to shows with had a music message board a few years ago and Stuart Mogwai occasionally posted on it. when mogwai first came to SF (fall 1999 w/ ganger), this person was on the list and he invited me backstage with him after the show (note: this is my only backstage experience). stuart had his skateboard and was doing kickflips and the three of us started talking about music and then we decided we were hungry but it was late in the tenderloin and the closest place open was mel's diner. so we went. the end. they were very nice guys, esp. barry burns.

Mogwai are playing at the Fillmore on Monday. I am going with Anthony Kyle Monday of ILX (and his charming wife).

That's a nice story. Coincidentally, one of my only "friend to the stars" experiences involves Mogwai. Me and a friend got talking to them at a Spiritualized show in London just after Young Team came out. They got really excited when Alan Vega and Martin Rev of Suicide came on for the encore, and starting shouting like children. I kind of tangentially know Martin (from Mogwai) too- he's very nice but quiet. I last saw him at a Lambchop show and shook his hand- it was really cold and had stuff written all over it.

i'm thinking about going to go see Dabrye tonight at Bottom of the Hill, but i dunno. he's opening for Manitoba (whom i've never heard), and i really, really like him, but since he's an electronic artist, what can i really expect besides him spinning records or twiddling knobs on a laptop. sounds like no fun for me.

ooh dabrye! is ~~joe torre~~aaron w. in town? i only like a couple of his songs (well mainly "the lish" (minus the sax part)), wasn't into the dabrye/prefuse stuff, but GENERALLY SPEAKING i think downtempo electronica shows exhibit tendenscies of being very hit/miss.
