See robot picture love thread. I just want an R2 unit to drive my car for me and tell me how awesome all my homebrew techno is.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

ilx - company on demand

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 August 2003 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

That's basically how I feel this weekend. I would love to have my gf here, but I have to wait 12 days for that. :)

b/f took me to a stunningly boring law school kegger last night...only went because it was just a few houses down from ours. All night long (okay, the half-hour I could stomach it) we kept dragging up the Clerks quote about hating people but loving gatherings or whatever it is. We kept cretins away with big puffs of cigar smoke; it was an effective strategy. B/f reassured me that many of those present were first-years who would soon have their spirits crushed and their souls consumed. B/f is a law school stud so many were sucking up to him hoping for a good position next year on law review or somthing, drinking bad booze out of young republican club plastic cups arghhhhghghhh.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Why did he think you would like it in the first place?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

he didn't...I think he puts me in situations like that because I make nasty comments about everyone that he finds entertaining. Or maybe he just wanted to reassure me that soulless rich kids will get their comeuppance one day.

Actually the fellow who lives in the house is a decent fellow, so we wanted to welcome him to the neighborhood. But dude, seriously, young republican cups, for real.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

also: when I said, "Wow, young republican cups," (in what I thought was a neutral tone of voice) this 22-year old said, irony-free, "Don't start stereotyping; Republicans are the best people."

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm. Your response?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to say I kissed her full on the mouth and professed my love for her and all young Republicans, but I was honestly too stunned to do anything.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have just quietly blown cigar smoke in her face.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I did do that later. Getting old, diminished reflexes, etc.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Republicans are the best people"

"Really? I dunno. Last week I was hanging out with some f**s and a n*gg**, they seemed allright"

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(depending on how pissed I am this may or may not be what actually comes out of my mouth)

(one way or another the 'joke' is that at a Young Republican party you can say this shit and NOT get threatened with dismemberment)

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(At any rate teeny's situ is one in which I would probably arrive and then begin putting on my worst behavior possible, like every other big house party kegger involving a bunch of people I don't know or respect or expect to ever see again in my life)

(just the thought of it now kind of frightens me, thinking about what I would probably say and/or do)

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

believe me I was tempted to be a raging bitch and confront them all, but they all know me as the nice lady on the radio and so I can't really do that. Really kind of sucks, I can never go to strip clubs or anything like that in this town.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah. I'm getting too old for that sort of act, it's probably a good thing I have a nice regular crowd and don't get dragged to things like that anymore so I'm not tempted. I get into enough trouble without being surrounded by people I strongly dislike.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

so the cups said "young republicans"?

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar, are you turning over a new leaf? It's marvelous and not a little scary watching you transmogrify :)

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

My eye is still purple

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe you're blossoming.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

RE: not wanting people around

I'm always distressed when I hear people say this. Maybe it's because I can't relate. You either want people around or you don't. How can you want company (people) and not want company (people)? My brain just isn't wired to understand that. The people you know should be comfortable enough to be around that they aren't tiresome, right? If they are tiresome in some way, making them "more trouble than they are worth" company-wise then maybe you're hanging out with the wrong people?

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i want people around, it's just that the people are not local. some of the people who i could have around annoy me. so i prefer my own company.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a difference between being around people and interacting with people. I think this is why I like big cities...you see a lot of different types of people, and the option exists to interact with them even if you rarely exercise that option.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(don't mind me, my post made no sense) i was saying it depends on the actual people...i don't just want people around, i want the company of people i like.

it is nice to live in a place where there's the option of interacting with people, as i do. but somehow the only people i run into lately are the annoying ones.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbit, I reckon it's more to do with a kind of thought process like this:

"I am restless and bored --> what will meake me happy --> my friends make me happy --> maybe I should see my friends --> but i'm in a restless and bored mood and I'll only bore them and anyway I'd have to make the effort to call them and go meet them and fuck it, where's the remote"

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 24 August 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a thought process like "i'm boring, want someone to bounce things off of so i don't feel like quiet is killing me, but wait they all have their own thoughts and things they want to talk about so screw that, too much effort to be a decent person."
