Isn't it a shame you don't get more schoolteachers in rap?

You know, a startlingly re-contextualised MOR track, and furious lyrical braggadocio about how well their classes did in their SAT tests, and how "all the shorties bring me apples, yo."

krs-one. Oh and our very own Sam of course.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah well rappers tend to be very greedy and schoolteachers tend to be exactly the opposite

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Michelle Pfeiffer to thread!

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't there some undie rapper who actually is a school teacher? He had a gig here in Finland a while ago, but I can't recall his name...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Wyndham Earl, Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

H (Heruy), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah but these folx aren't actually rapping about their day jobs are they? I can't imagine anything more boring. . .

No one wants to hear about my principal with the Napoleaniac complex or my students' inability to grasp pronouns/referents

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 23 August 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Except me.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 23 August 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

New Orleans' (well, he's from the West Bank) own DJ Jubilee is a special ed teacher.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 23 August 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't Peaches used to be a teacher?

fletrejet, Saturday, 23 August 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

J-Live taught English until just recently!

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 23 August 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

And maybe Defari?

rob geary (rgeary), Saturday, 23 August 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Who is Peaches?

You know, ya'll are getting the wheels turning in my head. My lil' bro just released an indie rap album which is getting play on local stations and selling fairly well overseas. (I was in the car with him the other day when one of his songs came on the radio!) He thanks me in his liner notes for turning him onto rap. Maybe he'd pay me back by helping me craft some lyrics and record. Hmm. ILX comp anyone?

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 23 August 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

YES! Sam, you must!

H (Heruy), Saturday, 23 August 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

>Who is Peaches?

I haven't heard much from her. She does some kind of lo-fi rap thing. Her hit is "Fuck the pain away". The name of her album is "The Teaches of Paches". Maybe this is where I got the idea she was a teacher.

fletrejet, Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Defari used to teach history (maybe is again? haven't heard anything from him for awhile)

oops (Oops), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

does rap really need its Sting?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Puffy already gave us rap's Sting. It was Sting.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

he didn't exactly have any say in the matter tho, did he?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternatively, how many members of Belle and Sebastian are crack dealing gangsta pimps?

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Not enough

oops (Oops), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Their crack dealing racket used to be really succesful until Stuart started letting Isobel peddle some of it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 24 August 2003 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Romio No E, milo.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 24 August 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

We've got the Peaches cd. I was just listening to it yesterday in the car full blast with the windows down on the way home from work ready to start my weekend.
Let me see if I can remember some lyrics for ya.

Oh yeah, there's this one where she and this other female rapper are talking about having a three way with this guy and Peaches is like (they're talkin' on the phone) "And what do you we do if he calls us lesbians? Just slip it in!" And the chorus is "Uh, Cassanova, pass him over, cassanova, pass him ova'." Yeah, it's real dirty. But I still think my Lil Kim album is dirtier.

Our new internet has PLATINUM at the top left of the screen cuz we gangsta, we gangtas, G.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Sunday, 24 August 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll have to see if I can find your bro's cd, Sam. Is it filed under his name? Available here in the states?

I make up raps every once in a while. My latest one is called ICEY HOTT. ONe time I rapped it to my mom and sisters and they just stared at me and were like, "Sarah, you're weird." Ok, it's a bit dirty, but I prefer the sleazy gangsta bitch stuff yo.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 24 August 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, having met you, trying to imagine you doing a sleazy rap is nigh on impossible...but then again, you are enjoying yer drink, so hey. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 24 August 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

But you must have noticed, Ned, that I'm high on goofballs all the time. I mean, even just the expression "high on goofballs" is dorky.

I still think my early (old skool!) raps from 6th grade are the best. Let's see:

"Yo, my name is Sarah and listen to what I think
We all know that you really stink
You're not cool, you're cruel at whatcha say
You need to listen to more Kid & Play!
You can't rap - Your Saran Wrap, I'm the Foil
Like a snake as it coils
STrike!Bite!
Go asunder, as I wonder, thunder
Lightening strikes you and you die"

Thank you. Thank you very much.
