I quite like Argos, really. When they got the computerised queuing system with the TV screens in I new we were entering a brave new world. Of course the last thing I bought from them (headphones) fell apart after a week, but that's my fault for not buying the cheapest (= sturdiest) headphones they have as usual.

They also do those ACE adverts with loads of bright colours and OK, so it's the Quo but the adverts ACE.
Argos sells clothes now. If they start selling food as well then I'M NEVER SHOPPING ANYWHERE ELSE.

Even in the kitchen afterwards, I had no remorse. My attitude was, fuck it. What goes around comes around. It got his just rewards. It fucked me over and my attitude is an eye for an eye

To work out the prices today taking into account inflation, multiply the price by 2.3

Casio keyboards: back then - starting at £70, now - £5 at a car boot sale / £70 on eBay (circuit bending hipster dollar at work)

i remember looking at my nes games and seeing that some of them were £49.99, and we were fairly poor.

Surprised that you could still buy those sun ray wall clocks new in 1985. There's not a lot in this catalogue is there? Not surprisingly, the electronics section is very empty compared to today.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 12 December 2010 20:07 (fifteen years ago)
The 1976 catalogue looks really utilitarian. It's amazing how much stuff we're surrounded by now. Also I remember the black cover of the 1986 catalogue - remember thinking back then that it was very swanky!
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 12 December 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)
1985/1986 is really when they went from 'crummy little catalogue store' to 'crummy big catalogue store', right?
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 12 December 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
yeah just thinking that - there are loads more toys and toy brands in the 1986 one.
― Not the real Village People, Sunday, 12 December 2010 20:24 (fifteen years ago)
It's the year they started selling Yamaha keyboards alongside Casio, including the mighty SK-1 - only £99.00! wait WTF?!

Argos catalogue: Life lessons from the 'book of dreams'
That's how millennials and boomers have been lamenting the loss of the Argos catalogue. One Twitter user even wrote that it was his entire childhood.
^^^ I guess us Gen-Xers don't give a fu... oh that's right we don't.
― Being cheap is expensive (snoball), Thursday, 30 July 2020 19:17 (five years ago)
Weird. I knew that Habitat had kind of merged into Argos but hadn't quite expected the Habitat website to suddenly basically be selling Argos stuff.
