have you ever applied for a job, been offered it, but turned it down? And if so, what was the reason?

This newspaper offered me a job as an editor without even interviewing me — the m.e. said it was mine over the phone. Then I found out the newspaper was in northern Northern Ontario.
Fuck that.
Also turned down a job as an assistant museum curator because I had been hired minutes before by a better-paying employer.

No. At this point I'd take almost anything.

When I was graduating from uni four years back, and after many failed applications, I had two interviews on successive days. The second day was at UCL, and they called me first thing the next morning to offer me the job, which I took. I got a call from the other one a couple of days later, also offering me a job. I have always been glad they came that way round - the other one seemed less promising for the future, and paid £6k less.

Back in 94 when I was finished with grad school I went on like 30 interviews without much interest. Then I interviewd with a flooring manufacturer, a bank, and a media company. I liked the media company the best and the bank the least. The flooring manufacturer dickered with me about salary but finally made an offer just before my 2nd interview with the media company. I told them about my situation and preferences as gently as possible but the guy got really upset at me on the phone and rescinded the offer. The media company made me an offer a week later and then pulled it the next day when the division's budget got cut. Leaving me with the bank which I had to take. Two weeks later the flooring manufacturer guy called and apologized about his behavior and asked if I was still interested. By that time I had decided I didn't want to work for this guy and had already gotten an apt in NYC so I told him thanks but no.

I've turned down a few jobs in my day. My first major job to turn down was in Chicago. I decided to keep my bf instead of move far away by myself. I've also turned down jobs that didn't pay that well. I think they should give you some idea of the hiring range before you interview.

I went through a three stage interview process for a techical purchasing agent position at a major pharmacutical company. The money was really tempting, but they came off like major Nazis during the interviews, so I told them no. The person at the staffing company that set up the interview was furious with me for turning it down.

i'm about to, assuming that my background investigation doesn't scare them off. it's a good job, more money, i could retire with full benefits in 25 years but two things are making me shy away. one, i'd be expected to move on in 18 months to one of 104 facilities in the u.s. that would be cool if they could guarantee that i'd be assigned to chicago, boston, sf, nyc, etc. not so cool when i realize i have a much better shot at being sent to beaver, west virginia, yankton, south dakota, or middle of nowhere texas. the other thing is that it would be in a federal prison and i'm not sure how much i'd dig going to federal pound me in the ass prison every morning.

I turned down a job at a startup in 2000 (bluetrain.com, nothing there now, it was like a web-based outlook deal for small businesses) because another company offered me way more money. I made the right choice since bluetrain disappeared about four months later.

A month ago, went for a job as an Internet Trainer (you present MS products to supposedly interested parties). I sold myself so well, they offered me the job on the spot. However, I turned it down once I figured out I'd have to pay to get the initial supplies. As this was WHY I needed a job in the first place (for money to support myself), I smelled the whiff of a scam.
