Posting to other boards, C/D?

So, I just posted something to another msg board. It's a non-related thing, but I realized to late that I used the same flippant and recklessly bombastic posting style that I often employ here. I think I've hurt a lot people's feelings, because they didn't know I was just being flippant and recklessly bombastic.
So, like, this is almost like, why do you stay with the friends you've had all your life or even your family even though you may not really like them? I guess there's sometime to be said, something to be valued, about being with people who know how to take you, even if it's with a grain of salt.
So I guess I'm just saying that I'm thoroughly addicted to you ILX. Never leave me.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i used to post to another board where the minute anything got remotely contentious (even without the bile-spewing that has now become the norm for ILM), the moderator would say "hey guys, cut it out" and lock the thread.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a one-board woman. I can hardly keep up here/ I can't imagine posting somewhere else too.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it was sort of a one time thing, something geographically specific, so I wasn't, like, looking to replace you guys or anything.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i used to post on another message board but it sucked way bad. they didn't like fun.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I like fun. Hell, I LOVE fun. Fun's my middle name.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

But Horace, did it mean anything, or was it just an impulse you couldn't resist, and it'll never happen again, honest?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 August 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hah, I thought this was about posting to other boards within ILXOR!

Actually, there are other message baords?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 25 August 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I just thought, I mean, posting to the other board has only strengthened my love for YOU.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 25 August 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Other message boards are available

Radio Times Advert (RickyT), Monday, 25 August 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i actually got barred from another forum!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 25 August 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I occasionally post good/weird ile thread questions to "the gas station" which is this electronic musician's board. Total bafflement is usually the result. Last one was that madonna lyric that someone posted, withthe word "genius" below it. It got teh h@t@z going, sad to say.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 25 August 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Possible confessional time here?

I did once post at another forum quite regularly, but I stopped once I discovered how much better this one is. This forum is a great amalgam of different peoples and personalities and I like how there are great differences in ages and locales and life experiences, and it's actually kinda neat thinking of how Little Square '50s Teenager Me could fit in with the rest of you lot.

You know, I've found that you guys are some of the most intelligent people I've had the opportunity to chat with, period. Online, it's no contest -- my brain has never been this stimulated online. Plus, so many of you guys are so sophisticated and mature that I look at you in awe and wish I could be like that when I grow up.

But anyway, if you want to post to other forums, go right ahead. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm slowly starting to post again at the forum I used to go to, but it doesn't really feel the same. Eh, maybe I can go back. I know for damn well sure I won't be giving up this place, though. I'm addicted now, and I want to nurture the friendships I've got going here as well. (I'm sure there are some of you thinking, "Damn, you mean SHE'S going to keep on hanging around?" Yup, that's right. You've got me here for a very, very long time to come. Surprise.)

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i post on three different boards currently. this one, occasionally the twisted nerve board, and the mono.net board (mainly australian music)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been barred from forums, mailing lists, you name it. Some of it was even deserved. But a lot of it was that once I realized that I was going to get cut off for not being "nice" enough, I made it my goal to get kicked off.

The fast way: find the sacred cow and attack it (duh), or the person who is untouchable and attack her. It's always a "her." You don't even have to attack really, just argue. You could even be doing it reasonably. Doesn't matter. Soon you will find an army of lonely sycophants after your ass, railing about how she's a princess and you're a blue-veined dick. That always makes me laugh.

Anyway.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

You REALLY don't want other people to find out how truly great a person you are, hm, SeƱor Kenan? ;)

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Note: It's sad that those people thought you were bannable. You are SO not. Speaking as an old flame target by truly sad and joyless individuals who were truly deserving of every single ban they received, I think you are a wonderful individual and shame on the people who think you're not.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

awwww...

No, sometimes I'm an asshole. It's true.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i frequently post to another board that's smaller and much easier to follow, sillier and can get dull but i've been going there for years and like the people.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

sillier?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ilx can get pretty silly but i think can also be more serious. you don't get the variety you get here because everyone agrees on the same things so we only socialize.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

No, sometimes I'm an asshole. It's true.

NO WAY!!!

So Kenan, you're basically admitting to being a troll?

Cows are pretty much always female, sacred or not.

I am a professional chatroom moderator, which some of you may find hard to believe. The boards I've moderated, though, have been for younger users and very much moderated, as in every message came through me and I had to decide whether to let it through, edit it or reject it. I also had to be chummy, helpful, firm etc. with the kids involved. It was quite an experience. All they ever talked about was football, cars, wrestling and (90% of the time) sex. So it was pretty much like being here.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Serious response to Ricardo:

I have trolled in the past, yes. Sometimes I have even enjoyed it. But the great thing about this place is how organically such people are dealt with. I wouldn't dare troll around here -- the shame of being rejected by peers, instead of just some authority, is too great.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

what's his screen name?

(i only post to rail against the rock and powerpop obsessed hordes)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I very occasionally go on the h0merec0rding.com bulletin board. Sometimes I go there to ask technical questions, as the people are usually fairly knowledgable about tech stuff. Other times I go on there to argue with idiots who think unless you have a degree from Berklee and $50,000 of recording equipment, you can't get a good enough guitar tone to bother recording a song. Also sometimes I go on there to read and laugh at people's posts about how awesome Satriani is.

ill stick w/ ilx thx

markers, Saturday, 7 August 2010 23:51 (fifteen years ago)

I once stuck my head into a simcity forum, and one of the rules was that you were never to revive old threads. But if you started a new thread, they'd point out the topic had already been discussed and why didnt you search for it.

So you couldnt revive the old thread.... or start a new one... it hurt my head so I gave up.
