It's gonna get HAWT!

My building's air-conditioning ist kaput. So, it's now 8:42am and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. We're on the sixth floor, which isn't so bad as the 12th, but we've got a server room full switches, routers, modem bays, computers, etc that are cranking out some serious heat on top of the triple-digit heat index that's going to hit Central Kentucky today. It's not a dry heat either, it's a living-in-a-wet-sock kind of heat. Have pity on me.

After the weather here a fortnight ago, I have lots of pity for you. Drink bucketloads of water, treat yourself to ice cream at every possible opportunity,a nd remember, you have total whingeing rights.

85 degrees. Time until air-conditioning is operational: Indeterminate.

All is bad. I feel for you so much. I'd rather freeze to death.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

So take off all yr clothes!

nellyalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm the same way. Give me the freezing artic over a Kentucky summer any day. It's just oppressive. Kenan, you lived in Austin right? That's some pretty oppressive heat as well.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I still live in Austin, for another two days. But when I hit Chicago... mmm... overnight low of 57 on Tuesday. I have erotic dreams about such summer temperatures.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Are they erotic dreams plagued by shrinkage?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan, NA and I will be in Chicago Friday through Monday. I suppose you're moving there?

Sarah Mclusky (coco), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I plan on being in Chicago sometime next summer. Of course if this heat is any kind of motivator I might just move to the Yukon instead.

Holding at 85 degrees. Heat index at my desk ~= 1000000 degrees.

Dude you need to listen to JSBX "Sweat" on repeat all day long.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I sure hope you remembered to wear your muscle T to work today!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Crisis averted. Repair crews have neutralized the problem. Environmental status at 82 degrees and falling.

Now we open the thread about up to general complaints about hot weather, or alternately, the benefits of moving to the Yukon.

I got sick this morning. No air conditioning in the car, drove downtown to the newspaper to pick up leftover rolls of newsprint for wrapping, ended up carrying them halfway around the building because I didn't know where to park. Back in the car, all the way home, so thirsty. So very thirsty. Got home, drank water and ate ice, but didn't cool off much. Threw up. Laid down. Still sick. Mild delirium setting in, started babbling to my girlfriend about how to sharpen a knife. She made me take a cold bath. I'm better now.

Heat is bad and dangerous. Stay away from it.
