Fun Songs to Sing

Recently I was at a party and we were having fun singing songs and then we kept on running out of songs that we knew (other than Christmas Carols!!).

Anyone got any suggestions of good sing-along type songs for next time? And no, I don't mean of the Old Macdonald or 100 Green Bottles Variety.

toraneko (toraneko), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ODB - "Shimmy Shimmy"

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i always end up singing either 'shine on' or 'feed the world' with my girlie pals.it always works for us!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Bon Jovi - "Livin on a Prayer"

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and best friend in car last night: "Sweet Child Of Mine", though any Axl would do i s'pose.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

or boy band songs from your youth. because really, deep down somewhere in the folds of your brain, you can find the lyrics to every New Kids on the Block song

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Wheels in the sky keep on turnin'

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

The Key, The Secret, by Urban Cookie Collective. The credits to K-9 and co? Running out of songs... what a sadly alien concept...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i enjoy the fact that almost everyone my age knows ALL of the lyric's to that dreaded hit,"ice, ice, baby" by vanilla ice......the anthem of a generation.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend Chris and I used to walk up and down Victoria Avenue in Brandon and just about anywhere else singing "Mother" by the Police. No wonder neither of us could get a date.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

alright stop. collaborate and listen?

also, people seem to know the words to Baby Got Back.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre300/e338/e33830k0dkv.jpg

every single track.

we used to do this in the kitchen of the bar/grill that i worked in. Had so much fun all yelling along to "Skulls" that i didn't notice that i had cut my knuckle instead of the onion.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmmmmmmmm, french knuckle soup.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I second 'Skulls' - I was having fun singing that just last night

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Is "French Knuckle" anything like "French Vanilla"? It sounds like filthy sex slang.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock and Roll McDonalds :(

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Baby Got Back is hard to sing!

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

NA, you have such a bear cracker mind.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit. I have been looking so hard for opportunities to use "bear crackers" and you just beat me to it.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

hard to sing? All you need to know is one line: "My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, hon." followed with a whip-crack, and the video-ho does this amazing sideways jump-kick.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The whip-crack is the most important part! Everyone always goes "hwhooo KEEEEESH"!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(Delete the .gif) (Oh, it isn't even funny now I hate you all)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe the problem is that rosemary is trying to sing it instead of rap it.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

hahah dan i love you.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

felicity, Mary and I performed "Baby Got Back" at our karaoke date, and it was more difficult than we had expected.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Drown everyone in booze and get 'em all going 'mama say mama sah ma ma coo sah' or whatever from that Michael Jackson song.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry Ms Jackson-EEEEEEEEEWWWWW, i am for real!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Leader Of The Pack - the bit where the backing line gets like two seconds to fit in "What'd they mean when they said you had to find somebody new" is particularly fun to attempt, but it's all great. As are their other hits - the "Mwah!" kissing bit on Give Him A Great Big Kiss is wondrous.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

so is 100 green bottles the same as 100 bottles of beer on the wall? i am confused. and sober.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

wasn't that a Michael Keaton movie?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

the 2 bottle songs are different. what about "she'll be coming round the mountain" Second the Shangri-las other fun driving sing along tapes are Queen and the Rolling Stones tape with Wild Horses and Angie on it. I think.

isadora (isadora), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Build Me Up, Buttercup

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the best summertime sing-whilst-driving albums - "Kamera," "Jesus, Etc.," "Radio Cure," "Heavy Metal Drummer."

Also: all Old 97's, Baptist Generals and Lucinda Williams and Tom Petty's Wildflowers album.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Weezer's first two albums, too, but only when inebriated.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 03:50 (twenty-two years ago)

L.M.L.Y.P. by Ween
how much better does it get?

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"Green Grow the Rushes Ho"? I don't know if this is the kind of thing you have in mind, but it's great even if only one person knows the words and the melody because it's one of those "tack on another line each time around" songs, so by the end everybody knows all the words (and has had plenty of time to get some good harmonies in on the "three, three, the rivals" part!)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

alright stop whatcha doin'
cuz i'm about to ruin
the image and the style that you're used to....

fuck was that an earthquake?

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

In the sounds-like-a-good-idea-but-it's-really-not dept.: "Yellow Submarine".

So, um, "Seasons in the Sun".

weatheringdaleson (weatheringdaleson), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Night Fever!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 07:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"I get knocked down!"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG, I know of hardly anything mentioned above, xept Bon Jovi, Axl and Yellow Submarine.

There must be a songbook somewhere of "easy songs to sing from the 70's 80's & 90's that aren't too dorky and that every one knows the melody to and at least the words to the chorus"

toraneko (toraneko), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's weird cuz it's not a happy song, but everyone and their momma sings along to "When Doves Cry". Don't they?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

They certainly do. Every single version of it, too.

I like singing along to Girls Aloud and Lucinda Williams at the moment.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

our house in the middle of our street

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought toraneko was talking about singing without the stereo.

This is sad. I feel like it's the death of folk music, as in "music everybody knows and that everybody can sing."

"Dream Dream Dream" by the Everly Bros?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
